PROSPECTUS

The 21st Annual ANA Regional Juried Art Exhibition is regional competition hosted by the Artists of Northwest Arkansas to support the work of regional artist. The primary goal of the show is to acknowledge, promote and encourage artist in multiple media and disciplines.

AWARD JUDGE

SHANNON DILLARD MITCHELL

Awards Judge, Shannon Dillard Mitchell, has over 30 years of experience as a fine arts curator for museums and universities, plus holds certification as a Fine Arts Appraiser.  She earned her B.A. Liberal Arts & Sciences/Southwest Studies from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, and received a dual degree from Southern Methodist University of a Master of Arts in Arts Administration and a Master of Business Administration. Additionally, Mitchell is an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers.

Mitchell is currently the Consulting Curator for Tyson Foods, Inc. Headquarters and an Independent Exhibition Curator and Fine Art Consultant.  Previous positions include serving as the Director of the Fine Arts Center Gallery of the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), Director of the Fine Arts Center Gallery of the University of Arkansas (Little Rock campus), plus art and development positions at The Colorado College, San Antonio Museum of Art, Nita Stewart Haley Memorial Library & J. Evetts Haley History Center in Midland, Texas and various retail art galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

ELIGIBILITY

The 21st Annual ANA Regional Juried Art Exhibition may be entered by any artist, 18 years of age or older, currently living in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

WORK ELIGIBLE

  • A maximum of five entries per artist may be submitted for consideration.
  • Work must be original, not done under supervision and not previously shown in this exhibit.
  • Orient images the way they are to be viewed
  • All 2- and 3-dimensional media are eligible. The categories include Drawing/Pastel, Mixed Media, Oil, Photography/Digital Art, Watermedia (watercolor and acrylic) and 3D Sculpture. At this time, we can not accept vidoe entries, performance art or installation art.
  • No reproduced drawings or paintings (giclees) will be accepted.
  • Photographs and digital art printed on paper or other ground will be accepted.
  • Diptychs and triptychs must be in one frame.
  • Plexiglass must be used for glazing. Pastels under glass will only be accepted with a signed waiver form.

SIZE RESTRICTIIONS

All work accepted for the exhibition must be ready for display. For 2-D work, maximum of 900 square inches (ex: 24 x 36) Sculpture is limited to 100 lbs. All framed art must have screw eyes or D-rings, strong wire attached and be ready to hang. Gallery wrap is acceptable with the edges painted.

ENTRY FEE AND MEMBERSHIP

A general nonrefundable entry fee of $50.00 will be charged for the first three entries. Members of The Artists of Northwest Arkansas will be charged $40.00 for the first three entries. A fee of $10 will be charged for additional entries with a maximum of five entries per applicant.

MEMBERSHIP TO ARTIST OF NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

If you are interested in becoming a member or need to send in your dues, please send a check separate from this competition. There are no qualifications necessary to join The Artists of Northwest Arkansas. Membership is $20 per year. Please see our website for additional information. https://www.artistsnwarkansas.org/

METHOD OF SELECTION

The 21st Annual ANA Regional Juried Art Exhibition will be selected from digital image files. Three judges will be selected from outside the region to select the pieces juried into the show. Judges will select no more than 1 work of art from any entrant.

JURORS

CLARK BAUGHAN

Clark Baughan is Director of Galleies for the School of Arts, Design and Media Arts at Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico.


Baughan administrates the Visual Arts Gallery, the Red Dot Gallery on historic Canyon Road and 4200 square foot of additional exhibition space within the 55,000 square foot Visual Arts Center at SFCC. In addition to the galleries, he directs the Gallery Management degree plan at SFCC and manages the internship program that places students into career opportunities with commercial galleries, arts organizations and museums in Santa Fe, NM. During his tenure with SFCC, he has curated numerous exhibitions of local, national and international artists and partnered with many museums, institutions and arts professionals to develop outreach, exhibitions and educational opportunities. He has served as Chair of Fine Arts and currently serves as Chair of Faculty Senate for SFCC.

Previous positions for Baughan included arts instruction at SFCC and Northern Kentucky University, plus management positions at the Museum of New Mexico and the Oakland Museum of California. Baughan holds a BFA (painting) from East Carolina University and an MFA (painting) from Arizona State University.

AMERICA MEREDITH

America Meredith of Santa Fe, New Mexico, earned her MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and her BFA from the University of Oklahoma. She has shown throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe in the last 17 years and has won awards at the Heard and SWAIA's Indian Market as well as at numerous competitive shows. She was a 2009 Artist Fellow of the Museum of the American, won the IAIA Distinguished Alumni Award for Excellence in Contemporary Native American Arts in 2007 and was voted San Francisco Weekly’s Painter of the Year in 2006.

The Swedish-Cherokee artist blends traditional styles from Native America and Europe with pop imagery of her childhood. Her influences range from the Bacone school of painting, the Arts and Crafts movement, 60s cartoons, to Mississippian shell engravings. She is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. The Cherokee language and syllabary figure prominently in her work, as they are the strongest visual imagery unique to her tribe.

Meredith works in pen and ink, serigraphy, monotype printing, and beadwork, but her primary focus is painting – in acrylic, egg tempera, gouache, and watercolor.

MARK KANE

Mark Kane, photographer and painter from Santa Fe, New Mexico, is an adjunct professor in the School of Arts, Design and Media Arts at the Santa Fe Community College and has been represented by galleries in Santa Fe and New York. Kane's paintings and photographs have been exhibited in museums and galleries that include Nikon House in New York, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, the Albright-Knox Gallery in New York and the City Museum of Madrid, Spain. His work an be seen at markkane.net.

DIGITAL IMAGES

Digital images should accurately represent the artworks entered. It is the intention of ANA that all acceptances will be considered final. However, ANA reserves the right to delete from the exhibition any artwork that does not conform to the entry specifications.

Artwork selected to be in the show will be notified of acceptance and provide instruction for shipping. Only artwork that is hand delivered or shipped will be eligible for Awards.

AWARDS

Final selection of awards will be made from actual works of art. The Top cash prizes will be awarded in the amounts of $1200 for Best in Show, $700 for Second place overall, and $400 for Third place overall with additional awards. Cash awards will be made at the Juror’s discretion. Artists do not need to be present to win. Awards and checks will be mailed to winner one week after show closes.

CATALOGUE

Each selected artist who is juried into the show will receive a copy of the exhibition catalogue.

SHIPPING and RETURN of ACCEPTED ARTWORK

RECEIVING:

Accepted entries for The 21st Annual ANA Regional Juried Art Exhibition must arrive prepaid at the SHIPPING AGENT by September 25, 2015. Details for shipping will be in the acceptance letter.

Participants may use the carrier of their choice. Enclosing a pre paid return label with your artwork is highly recommended. Early shipment is encouraged. Information for the shipping agent will be included in acceptance letter.

RETURN:

Accepted entries may not be removed before the close of the exhibition.

Artwork sold by the Fayetteville Underground will be given to the purchaser after the show closes on or after October 28, 2015. Directions for artwork pick up will be given with acceptance letters.

Shipped artwork, not sold at the show, will be returned after the close of the show starting Monday, November 4, 2015.

Entries shipped without a prepaid return label will be shipped after the close of the show by the shipping agent, COD, via the same carrier used by the sender within four to six weeks after the close of the exhibition. If return address is a P.O. Box, please include an alternate shipping address.

LIABILITY

The Fayetteville Underground and ANA will exercise professional care in handling all entries, but cannot assume liability for loss or damage, however caused, while works are in transit. Accepted entries will be insured, while on exhibit, for the amount indicated on the Entry Form. Insurance for theft or loss, subject to the standard policy provisions. It is suggested that artists wishing additional protection insure their entries independently.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The Artists of Northwest Arkansas, reserves the right to photograph and reproduce, in color or black & white, all artworks accepted for the exhibition regardless of copyright. Digital images will be used for the exhibition catalogue, educational, and/or publicity purposes only.

SALES

Sales will be facilitated by the Fayetteville Underground. Commission of 50% will be retained by The Fayetteville Underground. Artist must price their artwork accordingly. Artist may mark their artwork “Not for Sale”, but must provide a value for the artwork for insurance purposes.

AGREEMENT

The receipt of an entry for The 21st Annual ANA Regional Juried Art Exhibition will be understood to imply agreement on the part of the entrant with all conditions set forth in this prospectus.
