PAINT THE PENINSULA, 2014

About the Event

Paint the Peninsula is a juried competition sponsored by the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center located in Port Angeles, Washington on the glorious Olympic Peninsula September 7 through 14, 2014..  If you want to paint salt water, rivers, lakes and waterfalls, mountains, industrial cityscapes, big trees and the rain forest, practically without moving, come see the varied and beautiful locations on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.  This five day painting contest will offer more amazing opportunities for the plein air painter than you have ever imagined.  Paint the Peninsula for the ultimate Pacific Northwest experience.  Artists will have an opportunity to hang their work daily for sale.  Please refer to our website at www.paintthepeninsula.org for more information, a bio of our judge Jim Lamb, information about Jim’s post event workshop, and photos of plein air painting sites.

Entry Process

Paint the Peninsula is a juried competition. Each artist needs to submit three images of their best recent plein air art work. Five artists who were our winners from 2013 will not have to submit work to be juried. Jim Lamb will serve both as jurist and judge, reviewing submitted images and choosing 25 artists to participate in Paint the Peninsula 2014, for a total of 30 artists. Notification of selected artists will be emailed no later than the end of April, 2014. Artist commitment forms will be mailed to those who have been accepted and must be returned to the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center no later than May 31, 2014 .

General Rules and Guidelines

  • Orientation and stamping of substrates are mandatory. No artwork will be accepted for hanging in the event unless the event stamp is visible on the back of the substrate or front in the case of watercolorists.
  • Pastel painters’ paper should be suitably mounted on board or foam core in order to allow for stamping and visibility of the stamp from the back of the frame.
  • All work must be framed and wire strung. Saw tooth picture hangers are not acceptable.
  • Due to limitation of display space, all work must be no longer than 18 inches on its longest side before framing.
  • A 30% commission for PAFAC will be taken on all work.
  • There is a minimum price of $300 for all work. No work may be priced under $300.
  • Attendance at the community reception on September 13th is mandatory.
  • All artists must participate in the Quick Draw.

Awards

Cash prizes of $3100 will be awarded, along with numerous Sponsor Merit Awards. Best of Show is a cash award of $1500 and includes the honor of having the artist’s winning artwork become the image on the 2014 Plein Air Special Limited Vintage Wine produced for the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center by Camaraderie Cellars to be released later in the year as well as being featured in the following year’s promotional materials for Paint the Peninsula. PAFAC is advertising in Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, as well as the extensive network of other organizations in an effort to attract art collectors to promote sale of artwork.
