FINE LINE CREATIVE ARTS CENTER PRESENTS

“LAYERS” A NATIONAL JURIED COLLAGE

AND ASSEMBLAGE EXHIBITION AND SALE

Show:

Fine Line Creative Arts Center presents “Layers” a national juried collage and assemblage exhibition and sale of exceptional work. The exhibit is held in the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit art center located in the Western suburbs of Chicago in St. Charles, IL.

Two jurors, who are experts in the collage and assemblage, will choose from the pool of applicants. Artists are selected on the basis of originality and quality of work. Each selected artist may submit up to 5 pieces for display and sale at the show (2 dimensional/hanging pieces must follow hanging requirements indicated below).

The show is produced by Fine Line’s Kavanagh Gallery Committee and will be advertised throughout the Chicagoland area through print media, postcards and on-line advertising. The show charges a sales commission of 30% for any items sold during the show. Fine Line will handle all sales/sales tax and will provide the artist with a check at the end of the show for all sales (less 30% commission).

This is a gallery show, so artists need not be present while the show is open. Attendance at the gallery opening is encouraged but not mandatory. Fine Line will handle the show hanging, show opening and sales. Artists are responsible for the shipping costs and insurance to and from the show.

Awards:

In recognition of outstanding work, Fine Line presents cash awards for Best of Show ($500) and merit awards of distinction.

Entry Rules:

Each applicant must submit an application, a non-refundable fee and up to five (5) electronic images for consideration by the jury. Images should be the actual work to be submitted for the show. All works submitted must be for sale. Minimum image resolution should be 300 dpi and 1400-2000 pixels on the longer dimension. Artist statements will be printed and displayed at the show. Artists who work together may apply as one if they collaborate on every piece of work.

“Layers” a nationally juried collage and assemblage show is open to all artists who reside and work in the United States.

2 Dimensional/Hanging Requirements:

All work for wall hanging must be ready to hang. Because of the hanging system we use (Walker Display), you must us a wire hanger (not a metal or saw tooth hangar). We cannot put nails in the wall.

3 Dimensional Requirements:

The Kavanagh Gallery has white pedestals for use during gallery shows. Smaller items will be in a locked display cabinet.

Electronic Applications:

You must be prepared to pay the application fee at the time you fill out the online application and accept the Terms and Conditions.

Images:

Minimum image resolution should be 300 dpi and 1400-2000 pixels on the longer dimension.

Artists Statement:

All applicants are encouraged to submit an artist statement limited to 1000 characters. Artist’s statements will be displayed during the gallery show.

Jury Decisions

Jurors’ selections are based on creativity, quality of workmanship and originality as represented in the images submitted. Notification of the jury’s decisions for the 2014 show will be posted online at JAS on or before August 1, 2014. A contract and other forms will follow by email to those accepted into “Layers” a nationally juried collage and assemblage Show.

Acceptance:

You will be notified of your status directly after the jury’s decision via the Juried Art Services website. The Fine Line website will post an exhibitors directory as soon as jurying is complete. Images for show promotion will be taken directly from the Juried Art Services website.

Fees:

There are no booth fees for this show. All work will be displayed in gallery format and artists not need be present for the show (perfect for out of town artists). Fine Line takes a 30% commission on all sales during the show. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance to and from Fine Line.

Jurors:

Charles “Tornado Man” Heinrich – A graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago, he has been a Chicago area artist, teacher and former set designer for Steppenwolf Theater.

Joe Eddy Brown – A prominent Chicago area “thingmaker” and assemblage artist who exhibits his work in galleries across the country.

Show Schedule:

Tuesday, September 2, 2014 – Delivery and check-in of work

Friday, September 12, 2014 – Show opening

September 5 – October 11, 2014 – Show open to the public from 10am – 5pm Monday – Saturday.

October 13, 2014 – Break-down, pick-up and shipping of remaining work.

Security:

Fine Line provides security in the Kavanagh Gallery with 24/7 video monitoring. Insurance is provided to artists during the show. Insurance of items during shipping is the responsibility of the artist (to and from Fine Line).
