National Juried Cup Exhibition

Ted Adler, associate professor of art and area head of Ceramics media at Wichita State University, will make selections from some of the most intriguing and exceptional cups produced by contemporary ceramic artists in LUX Center for the Arts’ sixth annual nationwide juried cup exhibition. Functional and non-functional interpretations of the cup, produced in clay, may be submitted.

  • Entry Fee: $30 for first application (one work, one view) $15 for any additional applications
  • Entries must be submitted online by: February 18, 2014
  • Notification Date: March 11, 2014
  • Exhibition Dates: April 4- May 31, 2014
  • Opening Reception: Friday, April 4, 2014, 5-8 p.m.
  • Ship accepted works to arrive at gallery by: March 21, 2014
  • Unsold work returned to artist by: June 30, 2014

JUROR

Ted Adler is Associate Professor of Art and Area Head of Ceramics Media at Wichita State University. Prior to moving to Wichita, he served Northern Arizona University's School of Art as an Instructor and Ceramics Studio Coordinator in Flagstaff, AZ. He received his BA from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR in 1993 and his MFA from Ohio University in Athens, OH in 2002. Adler has studied with the internationally respected artist Toshiko Takaezu, with whom he apprenticed for more than a year in her Quakertown, NJ studio. He also spent two years as artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation, the internationally celebrated center for the ceramic arts in Helena, MT. Adler has exhibited work, conducted workshops, and served as visiting artist at numerous ceramic centers and universities in this country and internationally.

Awards

The juror will select three artworks to be awarded cash prizes. The “Juror’s Choice” will receive $100 and two “Honorable Mentions” will receive $50 each.

ENTRIES

Online submissions must be received by February 18, 2014. Entry fee of $30 is to be paid online when submitting images through Juried Art Services. Fee is discounted to $15 for any applications made in addition to the first $30 application.

SUBMITTING IMAGES

Each artist may submit one artwork with one view per piece (artworks may consist of multiple cups working together as one piece). Work must be made primarily or entirely out of clay. Size may not exceed 15 inches in any direction or weigh more than 15 lbs. All images must be accompanied with the following information:

  • Title
  • Description- Clay type, firing and decorating method
  • Date of Completion
  • Dimensions (inches) H x W x D
  • Weight (lbs.)
  • Retail Price (includes the LUX Center’s 50% commission)
  • If entry includes multiple cups working together as one piece, please indicate if they are to be sold separately or as a set
  • Short Artist Statement
  • Special Installation instructions (if necessary)
  • Photographic Credit

Please double check your entry information, no changes can be made after your entry is accepted. Jurying will be conducted from images of actual works available for the exhibition.

Acceptance notifications will be listed on Juried Art Services by March 11, 2014. Accepted entries must arrive no later than March 21, 2014 to the LUX Center for the Arts.

Please note: No substitutions for accepted artworks will be allowed.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all artists working in the medium of clay residing in the United States of America. Work must be original and have been completed in the last two years. All work must be available for purchase.

SHIPPING

Accepted artwork must be hand delivered or shipped to the LUX Center for the Arts the week of March 21, 2014. The cost of shipping to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the artist. Accepted artworks must arrive with the appropriate return USPS postage or prepaid FedEx or UPS return shipping label. If accepted works are not sold during the run of the exhibition and do not have the appropriate return postage the will become property of the LUX Center. The LUX Center for the Arts is not responsible for any damage during shipment.

Works will be insured for 50% of the stated value from time of delivery to the end of the exhibition. Unsold artwork will be returned to the artist no later than June 30, 2014.

INSTALLATION

All artwork must be ready for installation upon arrival at the gallery. LUX Center for the Arts reserves the right to reject any artwork due to inadequate preparation for installation, if it differs from the accepted work or for any security or public safety reasons. After installation, no artwork may be removed from the exhibition until the close of the show.

SALES

LUX Center for the Arts holds a 50% commission on any sold artwork. Commissions received through LUX Center for the Arts sales help support the education and community outreach programs of the not-for-profit center.

RIGHT TO REPRODUCE

LUX Center for the Arts reserves the right to photograph exhibited work and use either these photographs or the artist’s entry images in both printed and electronic materials for publicity, promotion, education and future grant proposals.
