2014 NCECA NATIONAL STUDENT JURIED EXHIBITION
CALL FOR ENTRIES

“Material World” Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The 48th Annual NCECA Conference, “Material World,” will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Delta Center, March 19 – March 22, 2014. In conjunction with the conference, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design will host the 2014 NCECA National Student Juried Exhibition, March 4 – March 22, 2014.

JURORS : Tara Wilson and Jeffrey Mongrain

Tara Wilson is a studio potter living in Montana City, Montana. Wilson received a BFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2000 and an MFA degree from the University of Florida in 2003. She has been a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation and the Red Lodge Clay Center. Wilson was selected as an emerging artist for the 2006 NCECA conference and was a presenter at the 2006 International Woodfire Conference in Flagstaff. She has given lectures and workshops throughout the United States; and her work has been exhibited internationally. Wilson was a demonstrator at the 2009 NCECA conference in Phoenix, AZ.

Jeffrey Mongrain creates both gallery-based works and site-specific pieces. The sited works are primarily located in spiritual spaces. His gallery-based sculptures are reductive and generally reference iconic forms. Scientific findings and religious philosophy are the conceptual foundation of his emotive forms. Some of Mongrain’s recent solo exhibitions include the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art in Sedalia, MO, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Art in San Angelo, TX, the National Museum of Catholic Art in New York City, the Diego Rivera Museum in Guanajuato, Mexico, the Temple Gallery in Rome, Italy, the Newcastle Regional Art Gallery in Australia, the Museo de Antropologia in Mexico, the John Elder Gallery in New York City, and the Perimeter Gallery in Chicago. Jeffrey Mongrain has been a Professor of Art at Hunter College in New York City since 1995. He previously taught for seven years at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland.

ELIGIBILITY:
The 2014 NCECA NSJE is open to full-time undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate students (as defined by their home institution) enrolled in the United States of America. Students enrolled at institutions on which the jurors currently serve as faculty are not eligible to apply. The applicant must be working towards a degree or be a post-baccalaureate in art at the time of submittal.

FEES:
Members $15 entry fee
Non-Members $30 entry fee

NCECA MEMBERSHIP:
NCECA Membership is not a requirement of submission but members will receive a 50% discount on exhibition submission fee as well as a range of other benefits. NCECA membership runs 12 months from the date of initiation or renewal. NCECA Membership fees are not included in any event registration. Membership is a stand-alone annual fee. ENTRY PROCEDURES:
All applicants will enter submissions online electronically through Juried Art Services at https://www.juriedartservices.com/ . Online submission begins April 18 and ends September 24, 2013.

NUMBER OF WORKS:
No more than 2 pieces of artwork may be submitted. For each artwork, you may submit only one full view image and one detail image. Jurors will only consider up to two works and review up to 4 images by each entrant. Jurying will be conducted from images of actual works available for the exhibition. No substitutions allowed. Submissions that include more than two works or more than one detail per work may be excluded from adjudication. Minimum of 1 image, maximum of 4 images.

MEDIA & LIMITATIONS
All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only when clay is the dominant material. Video featuring clay or ceramics will be juried if a link is provided in the description field of the entry or a hard copy DVD is sent to the NCECA Office. All links must be anonymous, any reference to an applicant’s name or school will disqualify participant from jurying. The jurors will make final determinations. Work must fit through a standard door. Floor and pedestal works must be self-supporting. NCECA and exhibition venue staff reserve the right to exclude from exhibition and works that arrive at the venue in unstable condition.

CATEGORIES AND AWARDS
Cash merit awards will be determined by the jurors from the actual works and will be announced during the Opening Reception and prior to the Second Members' Business Meeting. Recent NSJE Exhibition Awards have included NCECA, company and organizationally sponsored cash prizes and purchase awards. The final award list will be published at the time of the exhibition.

Delivery of accepted work: before February 17, 2014

Exhibition dates: March 4 – March 22, 2014

Reception: Friday, March 21, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Hand Pickup: March 22 after 5:00 pm, March 23 between 3 - 5 p.m.

Return of work: After April 8, 2014

Damage Claim: Before May 1, 2014

Return shipping reimbursement request: Before May 15, 2014

SHIPPING
Students are responsible for shipping or delivery of their work to and from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and insuring it while in transit. NCECA will reimburse up to $50.00 per piece for RETURN shipping. All items must ship via FedEx; students must include a pre-paid RETURN label for return shipment. An ORIGINAL receipt for return shipping must be provided to NCECA for reimbursement by May 15, 2014. NCECA will not reimburse shipping for work that is sold; purchaser is responsible for pick up or shipping.

INSURANCE AND SALES
The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design will provide insurance coverage for all work for up to $100 while on their premises. (Artists will be responsible for insurance of work in transit and over the $100 limit.) The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design will conduct sales; a 30% commission will be retained to be split evenly between NCECA and MIAD.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Participating artists must agree to allow NCECA, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and gallery visitors to photograph work while on display for educational and publicity purposes. Images of accepted works will be retained by NCECA for promotional purposes, posting on the NCECA website and sharing with media related publications. NCECA will print a color exhibition poster that will be distributed at the conference. NCECA may create a digital catalog and/or an online version of the exhibition using images of accepted work.
