Prospectus

SUBJECT MATTER:  Your entry may represent any aspect of the forest or forestry industry in any area of the United States and will be judged within any of the nine regions displayed on the Contest Map (scroll down to view map). Region refers to the location of the depicted forest, not the artist's address. Example: if you live in Florida (Region 7) but your artwork depicts a setting in New York (Region 8), you would enter the image in Region 8. Multiple entries in multiple categories may be submitted.

 

FORMAT:  This is a small format event. The total square inches of the original artwork or photograph must be no more than 196 square inches, unframed.  Image Size is determined by multiplying the horizontal and vertical dimensions.

 

MEDIA:  Oil, watercolor, scratchboard, acrylic, gouache, alkyd, tempera, casein, mixed-media and pastel are acceptable. Pen and ink artwork is also acceptable. Digital photographs or digitized film photographs will be accepted. Sculpture, computer-generated art, panorama photographs and abstract art will not be accepted. PRIZES AND AWARDS:  There are three separate categories: Artist, Photographer and Paint The Redwoods. ALL MONETARY AWARDS ARE CASH AWARDS ONLY. THERE ARE NO PURCHASE AWARDS. ARTISTS RETAIN FULL OWNERSHIP OF THEIR ORIGINAL ARTWORK OR PHOTOGRAPHY.

 

GOLD MEDAL:     ARTIST CATEGORY   $1,000 PHOTOGRAPHER CATEGORY   $500
SILVER (3/category):    ARTIST CATEGORY   $250 PHOTOGRAPHER CATEGORY   $125
BRONZE (9/category):  ARTIST CATEGORY   $75  PHOTOGRAPHER CATEGORY   $ 50
PAINT THE REDWOODS:  ARTIST CATEGORY   $500 (ARTISTS ONLY IN THIS CATEGORY) 

 

 

The TOP 50 will be included in our annual catalogue and registry. We are constantly adding awards and prizes so check our PRIZE WEBPAGE often to keep updated.

APPLICATION FEE: 
Artist:$35 first image, $10 each additional image;
Photographer: $25 first image, $10 each additional image

SUBMISSIONS:  Submission is by DIGITAL FILE ONLY, JPEG format.  Digital images submitted must be between 1400 to 2000 pixels on the largest side at 300 dpi in JPEG Format. Multiple entries in multiple categories may be submitted. 

 

AVAILABILITY OF ART:  All entries submitted must be available for inclusion in the Redwood Forest Foundation's website and other publications until December 31, 2011. Non-winners will not be published. Award-winning artwork must also be available for exhibit. Photos and artwork selected for exhibit must be framed and ready to hang.

 

JURYING:  The awarding juror for the competition is internationally renowned artist, juror, critic and curator Bruce Helander. His work is in over fifty museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and most recently, the Whitney Museum of American Art and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles. He has also served as Provost and Vice President of the distinguished Rhode Island School of Design.

 

SPONSOR:   The Redwood Forest Foundation, Inc., is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation whose vision is to establish community-based forests that provide both critical habitat for increased biodiversity and improved regional economic vitality and whose mission is to acquire, protect, restore, and manage forestlands and other related resources in the Redwood Region for the long-term benefit of the communities located there. RFFI currently owns and operates the 50,000 acre Usal Redwood Forest in Northern California.
