An International Juried Digital Exhibition
Presented by The Society for Midwest Metalsmiths

Call for Entries: Deadline,July 28th, 2008

The 2008 METAL Inclinations International juried exhibition will include selections of the most exemplary fine metal art created by metalsmiths, silversmiths, goldsmiths and jewelers all over the world. This strictly digital show will be trend setting.

SMM has produced highly regarded juried national exhibitions for over a decade. Top internationally recognized jurors are selecting the images for this exhibition. The entire show will be online– the entries, the jurying, and the final product to be hosted and viewed by the whole world on the Internet. SMM is also producing a downloadable catalog of the online exhibition for world wide distribution.

Jurors
Michael Monroe , a well-known and highly respected figure in the crafts community, now head of the Bellevue Art Museum, former head of the American Craft Council and former curator-in-charge of the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery.

Marilyn de Silva is professor and program chair of the Jewelry and Metal Arts Department at The California College of the Arts in Oakland, California.

Susie Ganch is currently Assistant Professor and Head of the Metals Program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia.

Important Information
The METAL Inclinations site features a Gallery web page of all the accepted works, plus each artist will have an individual web page that shows an enlarged version of their image/s with a short description and artist's statement of 100 words or less. If a link to the artist's web site or email address is provided, it will be included.

NEW AWARDS:
$3,500 to be awarded to the winning applicants.
$2,000 First Place Award, offered by The Society for Midwest Metalsmiths
$1,000 Second Place Award, by Hauser and Miller, fabricated metals and refining.
$500 Third Place Award, gift certificate by Rio Grande, jewelry supply.

• No need to ship your precious metalwork or jewelry around the world or to refrain from selling the artwork for the duration of the show. If you sell a piece online, SMM takes no percentage of the sale. Images will remain online even if sold.

• Artists will receive world-wide recognition of their talents.

• Artists will have access to a digital catalog of the exhibition.

• The exhibition will be displayed on the Internet for one full year.

Instructions:
When you complete your digital application at www.JuriedArtServices.com, you will pay for your application using PayPal on the Juried Arts Services site. Your application payment will be posted in your Juried Art Services account within 3 business days.

• Your application fee of $40 entitles you to enter up to 3 SEPARATE artwork ENTRIES.

BECAUSE EACH WORK IS JURIED SEPARATELY, EACH WORK MUST HAVE ITS OWN APPLICATION.
EACH APPLICATION CONSIST OF 1 IMAGE.
YOU WILL NEED TO CREATE AN APPLICATION FOR EACH ENTRY

Once you have completed your application click Pay Now button, enter credit card information, complete the payment process. Then repeat this process for each entry. When you click pay now, for each subsequent entry you will receive a receipt for a $0.00 charge as this is included in your paid application.

• Submit photography credit for each image if other than the artist.

• Complete all parts of the application.

• Online Review of Application: You will be able to review your application, as it will appear to the jury, immediately upon completion.

• All applications must be made through www.juriedartservices.com

Rules and Standards:
• All work should be original and one-of-a-kind and not previously exhibited in a Society for Midwest Metalsmiths show.

• ALL work should incorporate metal and use metalsmithing, silversmithing or goldsmithing techniques.

• Artists must submit their own work

• Submitting an application is acceptance of the exhibition rules.

• Incomplete applications submitted to the JAS web site will be deemed ineligible.

• Entry fee is not refundable. All decisions of the jurors are final.

Entry Details:
Enter all information including title, size, and year completed in the appropriate text box when uploading your images. A 100 word or less Artist's Statement must also be entered at time of submission for each work. 100 word or less statements and descriptions are REQUIRED for inclusion in the Exhibition and will be published as provided. Proofread your description and artist statement carefully.

Entry fee:
$40 for up to three images.

Artist's Statement:
An artist’s statement will be published on each artist's personal page in the exhibition. Statements are included to provide insight and information for gallery visitors, docents and art collectors.

Image Guidelines:
Images must be sized at 1400 pixels at the longest or widest dimension for submission. Files must be RGB format in the universal JPG format using maximum quality compression. Images WILL NOT be reviewed if all guidelines are not followed.

Images of selected works will be retained for the SMM Library. Submission indicates granting of rights to SMM to reproduce work on a digital catalog, on the web site and for publicity purposes. The catalog may be used for SMM's fundraising purposes, educational use as well as for publicity of SMM and its sponsors. Artists retain all copyrights to their individual works.

Digital Application Checklist:
Please have the following ready before going to www.JuriedArtServices.com. The process is estimated to take 30 min.

__ Digital images of a maximum of 3 works.

__ 100 word or less artist statement.

__ For each work, you will need to complete a separate application. When uploading the image, you will need to provide: Height, Width, Depth, year Created and a brief listing of materials and techniques.

METAL Inclinations Schedule:
• June 30, 2008- Digital Submission application deadline, $40 for three entries
• July 28, 2008- Extended deadline, $50 for three entries after June 30th.
• September 1, 2008- Jury results e-mailed and posted.
• October 31, 2008- Metal Inclination Exhibition Debuts on the Internet
• October 31, 2009- The exhibition will remain online for one year.
