American Women Artists 17th Annual National Juried Competition, 2014

The Addison Art Gallery, located in Orleans, MA, on Cape Cod, features work by emerging artists and established masters. This fine art gallery represents artists from across the United States, Mexico and France. Housed in a charming Cape house overlooking Orleans Town Cove, the welcoming gallery provides a comfortable environment for viewing exceptional work.
INTENT
American Women Artists seeks to select an exhibition of representational fine art that exemplifies the utmost in excellence in terms of composition, technique, mastery of medium and quality of design. The final selection
will elegantly showcase a diverse group of representational women artists who draw, paint or sculpt in traditional or contemporary style. Approximately 60 pieces of work will be chosen as the finalists to be
exhibited in AWA’s 17th Annual National Juried Competition Exhibition at the Addison Art Gallery in Orleans, Massachusetts.
AWARDS
The total awards will be approximately $25,000 in cash and prizes, with a Best of Show award package of over $8,000. Award packages are designed to encourage and inspire women in the visual fine arts.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to women at least 18 years of age, who are working in the fine arts and living in the United States, Canada or Mexico. Applicants MUST BE AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER of American Women Artists to submit work. If you are not currently a member you can join by clicking on the Join Us tab at

SUBMISSION
Only on-line entries will be accepted for this show. NO MAILED SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED. Please submit all entries through www.juriedartservices.com starting January 6, 2014.
DEADLINE
Final acceptance of all submissions is March 5, 2014.
ENTRY GUIDELINES
Representational artwork of original concept and design only.
Acceptable media shall include sculpture (cast metal, fabricated metal, stone, fired terra cotta, glass), painting (oil, acrylic, water media, pastel and egg tempera) and drawing (conte crayon, colored pencil, graphite, pen &ink, scratchboard).
Not Accepted craft, jewelry, photography, any work containing computer generated elements, prints, textile or fiber art.
Two-dimensional works and fabricated sculpture must have been executed within the last two years. Cast Sculpture must have been executed within the last four years. All works entered must not have been accepted for a previous AWA national juried competition show.
Maximum entries: six (6)
Maximum size Paintings & Drawings: Each piece cannot exceed 16” x 20” (up to 330 sq. in.) excluding frame.
Maximum size Sculpture: Combined dimensions (height + width + depth) may not exceed 48 inches on any one piece. (Example: 15.5”H + 11.5”W + 16”D = 43 total inches combined dimension) Two views may be
submitted for each piece of sculpture.
All works submitted for the competition must be for sale.
Maximum of one (1) piece of artwork per artist will be juried into the show.
All works submitted for the competition must be available beginning August 7, 2014.
Artists retain copyright to their image(s). However, accepted images do become part of AWA archives and may be used for this and future AWA event promotion.
FEES
All membership and jury fees are non-refundable; overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation and will not be refunded.
JURYING FEE: $45.00 for up to TWO (2) ENTRIES. Each additional entry $10.00 up to maximum of 6 entries.
MUST BE A CURRENT (OR NEW) ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF AWA TO ENTER COMPETITION.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP DUES: $60.00 MUST BE PAID BY MARCH 1st, 2014.
(example: Already a member: you pay $45.00 for 1 – 2 entries; Not a member yet: you will pay $45 + $60 = $105 for 1 - 2 entries)

JURYING NOTIFICATION
All jury status notifications will be emailed by Juried Art Services by March 28, 2014. A list of accepted artists and their works will be posted at www.americanwomenartists.org by April 18, 2014.
Up to 60 artists will be selected as competition finalists. One piece per artist will be selected to exhibit at the Addison Art Gallery, Orleans, MA beginning August 15, 2014 The show of National Juried Competition finalists will also be posted on our website www.americanwomenartists.org and the gallery website www.addisonartgallery.com.
LIABILITIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, SALES
Submission of work for this exhibit will be construed as acceptance of all conditions. AWA and Addison Art Gallery reserve the right to return work that does not meet exhibition standards. Every reasonable care will be taken with an original artwork. The artwork will be insured while in the Gallery. No individual or entity connected with the exhibition will be responsible for loss or damage however caused.
Accepted Works:
The decision of the jurors is final.
Once accepted, works may be pre-sold but must hang in gallery for duration of show and proceeds must be shared with hosting Gallery and AWA under Commission terms outlined below.
All accepted Paintings & Drawings must be framed or gallery-wrapped and wired for hanging. Accepted Sculpture must be ready to place with any stands and title plates securely fastened.
**Advertising Opportunity in at least three different national publications– for Accepted Artists Only. The details will be available to accepted artists in April 2014.
Sales Commission:
Painting & Drawing artists: will receive 50% of the selling price.
40% to the selling Gallery and 10% will go to AWA (non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization).
Bronze sculptors: will receive 60% of the selling price.
30% to the selling Gallery and 10% will go to AWA (non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization).
Artwork must be priced in accordance with artist’s current pricing structure.
Payment for work sold will be made directly to the artist from the Gallery. In the interest of closing a sale, the Gallery may offer a 10% discount to only its regular collectors without contacting the artist; selected exhibiting artists can choose to opt out of the Gallery’s potential discount structure by indicating so on their exhibition paperwork.
Shipping:
All shipping charges to and from the gallery are the responsibility of the artist.
We recommend insuring your work during shipping.
You must also include a check for $25 for gallery unpacking/repacking fee made out to Addison Art Gallery.
All works must have appropriate identification including title, size, artist name, price and medium on the piece.
All shipped artwork must arrive at Addison Art Gallery August 7 through August 12.
Hand delivered work: Deliver to Addison Art Gallery August 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 (not Aug. 9). Contact gallery prior to hand delivery.
A “Shipping Instructions” form will be supplied by AWA to all finalists and a copy must be included in the package with the work.
