American Women Artists 15th Annual National Juried Competition

November 2 - November 25, 2012

Hosted by: K. Newby Gallery & Sculpture Garden, Tubac, Arizona

“Our mission is to provide exceptional choices and services to our collectors while supporting our artists and charitable organizations we believe in. We represent artists who have achieved the highest levels of recognition in the art world alongside emerging talent whose work is breakthrough in style and technique and an enhancement to our collection. In our 20 years the K. Newby Gallery and Sculpture Garden has maintained a reputation as one of the finest galleries in the US. The gallery has been one of the leading forces in the Tubac art community, as well as playing a large part in the entire village.”

The Gallery will host an Awards Brunch for artists only from 9:00 -11:00am, and Artists Reception for the public from 1:00-4:00pm on Friday, November 2, 2012.

INTENT

It is our intention to choose the very best art in terms of composition, technique and overall excellence. We feel that the final show will be elegant, very well rounded and include a wide range of artistic expression from artists who draw, paint or sculpt in a representational style.

AWARDS

The total awards will be approximately $15,000 in cash and prizes, with a Best of Show award package of over $6,000. The Leonard J. Meiselman Foundation is sponsoring the Leonard J. Meiselman Award ($350) for the best sculpture done in a realistic and academic manner.  Award packages are designed to encourage and inspire women in the arts.

JURORS

Exhibition Jurors who will select this year’s Competition Finalists include K. Newby Gallery representatives, four AWA Master Signature Members to be announced, and a guest juror to be announced. Award Jurors include all Master Signature Members in attendance at the show.

SUBMISSION

Only on-line entries through Juried Art Services will be accepted for this show.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to women at least 18 years of age, who are working in the fine arts and living in the United States, Canada or Mexico.  Applicants MUST BE AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER of American Women Artists to submit work. If you are not currently a member you can join when you enter the show atwww.juriedartservices.com or at www.americanwomenartists.org and click on the Join Us tab.

DEADLINE

Final acceptance of all submissions is July 12, 2012.

MEDIA

Acceptable media shall include sculpture (cast metal, fabricated metal, fired terra cotta), painting (oil, acrylic, water media, pastel and egg tempera) and drawing (conte crayon, colored pencil, graphite, pen & ink, scratchboard).  No craft, photography, computer generated, prints or fabric art, please.

AGE OF WORKS ENTERED

Two-dimensional works and fabricated sculpture must have been executed within the last two years. Cast Sculpture must have been executed within the last four years. All works entered must not have been accepted for a previous AWA show.

EXHIBITION

Up to 60 artists will be selected as competition finalists and be invited to exhibit work selected from their entries at K. Newby Gallery, Tubac, Arizona on November 2, 2012.  The show of National Juried Competition finalists will also be posted on our websitewww.americanwomenartists.org  and the gallery website www.newbygallery.com.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

Representational artwork of original concept and design only.

Maximum entries: two (2)

Maximum size Paintings & Drawings : Each piece cannot exceed 30” x 36” (up to 1080 sq. in.) excluding frame.

Maximum size Sculpture:  Combined dimensions (height + width + depth) may not exceed 65 inches on any one piece. (Example: 43”H + 12”W + 12”D = 65 total inches combined dimension) Two views may be submitted for each piece of sculpture.

All works submitted for the competition must be for sale.

Maximum of one (1) piece of artwork per artist will be juried into the show.

All works submitted for the competition must be available beginning October 22, 2012.

Artists retain copyright to their image(s). However, accepted images do become part of AWA archives and may be used for this and future AWA event promotion.

FEES

All membership and jury fees are non-refundable; overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation and will not be refunded.

JURYING FEE:  $40.00 for up to TWO (2) ENTRIES.

MUST be a CURRENT (OR NEW) ASSOCIATE MEMBER of AWA to enter competition.  2012 ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP DUES: $60.00 MUST BE PAID BY JULY 5 TH

(example: Already a member: you pay $40.00 for 1 – 2 entries; Not a member yet: you will pay $40 + $60 = $100 for 1 - 2 entries)

Electronic payment should be made via PayPal for jury fees and membership dues.

JURY STATUS

All jury status notifications will be emailed by Juried Art Services on August 1st, 2012.  A list of accepted artists and their works will be posted at www.americanwomenartists.org not later than August 15, 2012. 

LIABILITIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, SALES

Submission of work for this exhibit will be construed as acceptance of all conditions.

AWA and K. Newby Gallery reserve the right to return work that does not meet exhibition standards!

Every reasonable care will be taken with an original artwork. The artwork will be insured while in the Gallery. No individual or entity connected with the exhibition will be responsible for loss or damage however caused.

Accepted Works:

The decision of the jurors is final.

Once accepted, works may be pre-sold but must hang in gallery for duration of show and proceeds must be shared with hosting Gallery and AWA under Commission terms outlined below.

All accepted Paintings & Drawings must be framed (gallery wrap acceptable) and wired for hanging. Accepted Sculpture must be ready to place with any stands and title plates securely fastened.

**Advertising Opportunity in at least two different national publications– for Accepted Artists Only. The details will be available on our website at www.americanwomenartists.org as soon as they are finalized.

Shipping:  

All shipping charges to and from the gallery are the responsibility of the artist.

We recommend insuring your work during shipping.

An additional packing/unpacking charge of $25 could be assessed if packages are excessively difficult to unpack or repack. 

All works must have appropriate identification including title, size, artist name, price and medium on the piece.

All artwork must arrive at the Gallery between: October 22 - October 26, 2012.

Hand delivered work - during Gallery Hours: Monday – Sunday from 10am - 5pm.

A “Return Shipping Instructions” form will be supplied by AWA to all finalists and a copy must be included in the package with the work.

Sales Commission:

Painting & Drawing artists: will receive 50% of the selling price.

40% to the selling Gallery and 10% will go to AWA (non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization).

Bronze sculptors: will receive 55% of the selling price.

35% to the selling Gallery and 10% will go to AWA (non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization).

Artwork must be priced in accordance with artist’s current pricing structure.

Payment for work sold will be made directly to the artist from the Gallery.
