This contest and subsequent ENDANGERED Online! exhibition aim to encourage Young Artists to focus their skill and creativity on the issues facing endangered species and habitats whilst raising funds to support the Center for Great Apes, a sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees in need of lifetime care.
Contest
You are invited to enter the 10th annual ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest, Young Artists Category. This global, juried, online art contest aims to focus attention on the plight of endangered and threatened species/habitats. The challenge is to interpret or reflect ENDANGERED through either:
- Celebration of the beauty of endangered/threatened species/habitats
or
- Illustration of the threats facing endangered species/habitats
Please note – species do not have to be formally listed as endangered in order to be eligible for this contest as long as an element of threat exists.
The Categories for entry are:
- Young Artists aged under 11 years on October 1st, 2022 i.e. birthdays on or after October 2nd, 2011
- Young Artists aged 11-18 years on October 1st, 2022 i.e. birthdays on or between October 1st, 2003 and October 1st, 2011
Young Artists worldwide are welcome to enter the contest. We will accept individual or class/group entries. Prizes will be awarded to the individual or the class/group accordingly. There is no limit on the number of entries that may be made.
We are sorry, but we cannot accept video or film entries in the contest.
Please enter JPEG images of your work either through the Juried Art Services website or through Woobox.

Young Artist entries are generously sponsored and NO FEE IS REQUIRED.
The juror panel will consider the following criteria (weighted equally):
1. Creativity
2. Success in reflecting the theme of “ENDANGERED”
3. Artistic skill/Photographic quality/Technique

Cash prizes totaling $750 USD will be awarded and all entrants receive a certificate of participation.
The winner of the People’s Choice vote will receive $100 USD.
Jury scores will determine the prize winners and which pieces will be exhibited in the ENDANGERED Online! Exhibition from November 21st to December 17th 2022. We anticipate showing the top 15-25% of entries. This percentage may vary according to the number of entries received and the quality of entries.
There is no requirement for art to be posted for sale and artists may opt out of the exhibition if they so wish. Sale prices must include provision for a 30% donation to the Center for Great Apes.

Website and Social Media Publication
All contest entries are published (IN STRICT ORDER OF ENTRY) on our Facebook page and other social media and on our website at https://www.Art4Apes.com. We will include your name, the title and ©2022 All Rights Reserved. If you would like your website and social media handles included, please make sure to include them in your entry details.

ENDANGERED Online! Exhibition
Jury scores will determine the prize winners and which pieces will be exhibited in the ENDANGERED Online! Exhibition. We anticipate showing the top 15-25% of entries online for 4 weeks 21st November to 17th December, 2022. This percentage may vary according to the number of entries received and the quality of entries.
Winners will be notified by email on or around November 11th, 2022. Decisions of the judges are final and binding. Judges will not enter into discussion and their scores will not be released. Checks will be mailed on or around December 1st, 2022.
Artwork exhibited may be offered for sale, if the artist wishes, and it is up to the artist to determine the price at which it will be offered. Sale prices must include provision for a 30% donation to the Center for Great Apes. Please bear this in mind when listing the price of your Artwork on the entry form. There is no requirement for art to be posted for sale and artists may opt out of the exhibition if they so wish.

We plan an active Public Relations campaign involving social media, online and print media. We will provide exhibiting artists with material that they can email to their contacts to encourage them to attend.
Proceeds
All proceeds from the contest and exhibition support the Center for Great Apes, a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization. The Center for Great Apes’ mission is to provide a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been rescued or retired from the entertainment industry, from research, or who are no longer wanted as pets. The Center provides care with dignity in a safe, healthy, and enriching environment for great apes in need of lifetime care. The Center for Great Apes is solely the beneficiary of the funds from this Contest; it has no role in the organization or management of this contest. The Center for Great Apes cannot be held responsible for any issue relating to this Contest.
Communication
We like to keep in touch with artists supporting this contest and we do this in the following ways:
- Through our website https://www.Art4Apes.com. We post a selection of entries online and blog about the artists and their work.
- Through our Facebook page https://facebook.com/art4apes - we encourage you to “friend” our page. We regularly post as many new entries as we can.
- We send occasional emails to update everyone on progress and news relating to the contest and exhibition plans; you may unsubscribe from these at any time.
- You may email Lindsey@Art4Apes.com at any time with questions. We try to respond promptly.
- You will receive a letter concerning selection of your entry or entries to the exhibition by November 11th, 2022.
- Winners will receive notification by email by 11th November, 2022 and checks will be mailed on or around December 1st, 2022
- From time to time, additional prizes may be offered, at the discretion of the organizers of the contest.
