Description of Exhibition

Art of Gastronomy is a juried exhibition that presents the passion of food and drink, the mystique and culture surrounding it, the kitchens and environs where cuisine is prepared, served and consumed, the people involved in its preparation and presentation, and of the food and drink itself as seen through the eyes of artists who taste and appreciate each meal with gusto, and preserve memories of gastronomic adventures and experiences though their art. Art of Gastronomy serves to bring to light, the grueling planning, exacting elements and attention to detail that go into making fine bites and sips memorable.

The juried exhibition will consist of original artwork from approximately 50 artists, created through mixed media, assemblage, encaustics, fiber arts, printmaking, book arts, kinetic sculpture, sculpture, ceramics, glass, wood, metal, photography, painting and drawing.

About the Jurors

Spring Maxfield - Spring is an avid arts advocate, arts curator, arts consultant and is the Co-Founder of The Great Handcar Regatta Festival. An art curator for over fifteen years, Spring’s work has included shows in underground galleries as well as established art institutions. Spring’s support for the arts overflows into community involvement public art projects, where she has served on a number of grassroots, city government, non-profit organization and private art foundation committees. Spring holds a BA in both Art History and Art Practice from Sonoma State University and an MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University. When not busy curating art shows, working on public art advocacy or private projects, Spring can be found at her miniature urban homestead with her husband and daughters in Sonoma County, CA.

Charlie Pendergast – Charlie is the founder of the RiskPress Foundation, whose mission is to provide local artists, especially those who have not been featured in a gallery, an opportunity to showcase their work in a public space which is free from the usual constraints and pressures of the marketplace. RiskPress also looks to publish the poetry of local writers in limited edition volumes, sales of which contribute to area nonprofit groups benefitting the arts. Charlie is a writer who has published books on gardening, as well as poetry, and who spent his career as a production manager for text books. He was also an associate editor for Motor Trend Magazine, and writes occasionally for local magazines, including Santa Barbara Family Life

Vicky Kumpfer - Vicky has been working in the arts for over 35 years and with a BFA degree from the University of Utah. Vicky supported the arts community in Utah for 10 years with such organizations as the Salt Lake Arts Center and the Utah Museum of Art. Now living in California, she has done the same in Sonoma County, working as the Art Coordinator for the City of Santa Rosa, the Executive Director for the Petaluma Art Center, the Visual Arts Program Manager with the Arts Council of Sonoma County and presently as the Gallery Manager/Curator for the Fulton X Gallery at Fulton Crossing.

C.K.Itamura – C.K. is an artist, designer and producer. Her work blurs the lines between mediums as she combines letterpress and linocut printing with photography, social commentary, personal idealism and mixed media to create sensory work and conceptual installations. She is an artist member of The Center for the Book Arts New York, a member and consultant for the Pacific Center for the Book Arts, a staff member and instructor at San Francisco Center for the Book and serves on the Board of Directors of the Healdsburg Center for the Arts.
