EXHIBITION THEME

A call-to-artists juried exhibition displaying recently completed (within two years) contemporary art of all media. With an eye towards the unexpected, submit examples of works that demonstrate innovative use of materials, unusual treatment of subject matter, unconventional mediums and edgy techniques to get their point across. The goal of this exhibition is to showcase benchmarks of excellence in contemporary art that demonstrates superior technique and original concept and design…This is NOT your father’s art exhibit so leave your traditional portraits and landscapes at home!

Exhibition on display from January 15 through March 7, 2015.

Cash awards for Best of Show and place winners.

JUDGE

Lighthouse ArtCenter is pleased to announce that CONTEMPO will be judged by Elayne Mordes of WhiteSpace Collection.

Whitespace is the private contemporary art exhibition space and loft-style home of Elayne and Marvin Mordes located in West Palm Beach. The Mordes’ have been collecting Contemporary Art for over 30 years and have a unique European approach to their collection.

Passionately contemporary, Elayne is the couple's more public face, the effervescent hands-on part of the operation.

One of the strengths of the collection is the consistency of vision that it exhibits and, in addition, has also been characterized by its enthusiasm and focus.

Whitespace has approximately 8000 square feet of exhibition space which has partial permanent programming and a changing project space entitled “Whitebox”, which has curated exhibitions which meet a high level of competency, vision and creativity.

Since its opening, Whitespace has employed scores of local young and emerging artists as curators, handlers, photographers, and assistants of all sorts and introduced their work to the public through an annual cycle of shows.

SUBMISSIONS

Artists are invited to submit artwork of all mediums and formats including digital, electronic, installation, and sculpture in addition to 2-d art that hangs on the wall. Selection will be based on submitted images, therefore it is possible for an artist to have more than one piece selected for the show. Open to all artists, professional, amateur and students.

Entrants may submit up to three pieces of artwork to be considered for this exhibition. Please note that the ArtCenter has a 10’ high ceiling.

DELIVERY AND PREPARATION

Selected artwork must be hand-delivered to the ArtCenter on Sun., January 11 (10 a.m. -2 p.m.) OR Mon., January 12 (10 a.m.- 6 p.m.)

Wednesday, January 7 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Two-dimensional work must be framed, edge-finished or gallery-wrapped and wired, ready to hang. (Please put a label on the back with your name, title of work, medium, size, and retail price.) Pedestals will be provided by Lighthouse ArtCenter for 3-D works as available. Please contact us with questions about installation pieces. The ArtCenter has the right to refuse to hang artwork not properly prepared for display or that differs from submitted images. Artists with installations that have been accepted may be required to assist in the on-site installation.

FRAMING

It is suggested that frames be simple and unadorned. They should be light colored wood, white, silver or black. Artwork must be ready to hang with wire in place. “Saw tooth” hangers are not compatible with our hanging system and are often unstable, we will not hang work by this method.

SHIPPING

• Accepted paintings may be shipped in a reusable box via UPS or FedEx including PREPAID return shipping labels. Return labels must include a bar code.

• Shipping artwork in Airfloat or U-LINE boxes is strongly recommended. No wood crates and no packing peanuts please.
