You’re invited to participate in a signature event in the City of San Diego over the Labor Day holiday weekend, Aug. 29-Sept. 1, 2014. 50,000 art lovers are expected to visit a site that’s been called the “most creative atmosphere in the world”. You just might sell more of your art here than at any other event in Southern California.

It’s the U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge and 3D Art Exposition, successor to the huge U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition that was held in Imperial Beach, CA, for 31 years. This is its 3rd year in a new venue on a “beach” on a pier jutting out into the beautiful Big Bay in the heart of downtown. (We bring in 300 tons of sand just for the occasion.)

200,000 people will come to San Diego’s North Embarcadero over the weekend. They’ll enjoy its many attractions, including the Maritime Museum’s Festival of Sail (tall ships from around the world), the U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier museum, shopping at Seaport Village and the Old Police Headquarters, and of course, our beautiful bay.

50,000 of them will pay a modest admission price ($7-$10) to enter our exquisite art show and sale. They will see the world’s best sand sculptors from Singapore, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Latvia and Canada challenge the best from the U.S., carving magnificent sculptures over a 4-day period. They will also peruse and buy works in other media (can’t take sand sculptures home — they weigh over 10 tons and would ruin the carpet) . . . media like metal and glass, acrylics and ceramics, wood and fabric, gemstones and, you-name-it. They’ll buy works in oil and watercolor (kind of appropriate on a pier over the water, no?), and photography too.

Along with the incredible array of art (how many shows do you enter that include some of the best sand sculptures in the world?), the event features live big band entertainment, a dozen gourmet food trucks, kids sandcastle building lessons and rides, appearances by City and Port officials, coverage on all area TV stations and advertising in a large number of print media. (Participating artists are listed in a 4-page full-color ad in the San Diego Union-Tribune.)

This is the last big holiday weekend of summer, and tourists and locals alike are in a spending mood.

Your 10’x10’ exhibit will be part of a special section of the show called ‘Art in the Park on the Pier’. Bring your own canopy, table and chairs, or rent them from us. (Rent is $525 total for 3 days: Sat.-Sun.-Mon. 4th day—Fri.—is free. Canopy with sides is +$125. 8’ table with 2 chairs is +$35. Booth adjacencies may be arranged for groups. Two artists may share one booth.)

Space is limited to 52 booths, so please apply early.
