2015 NCECA NATIONAL STUDENT JURIED EXHIBITION
CALL FOR ENTRIES

“Lively Experiment” Providence, Rhode Island

The 49th Annual NCECA Conference, “Lively Experiment,” will be held in Providence, Rhode Island at the Rhode Island Convention Center, March 25-28, 2015. In conjunction with the conference, Rhode Island School of Design will host the 2015 NCECA National Student Juried Exhibition in the Sol Koffler Gallery and foyer, March 21 – April 9, 2015. Awards will juried after the work is installed. There will be an awards reception hosted Thursday evening, March 26, 2015.

JURORS : Ryan LaBar and Magdalene Odundo

Ryan LaBar grew up in Great Falls Montana. He received a degree in Biology and Art from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. In 1999, he moved to Helena, Montana and set up a studio. He has worked as a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation, the LH Project, California State University Long Beach, and Caldera. Additionally LaBar has worked internationally in residencies in China, Bali, and Poland and has spent time at the Kohler Factory in Wisconsin and Meissen Manufaktur in Germany. LaBar received his MFA at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and was a subject of Nebraska Television’s “Nebraska Story”. Currently, he is the program director of the LH Project, a prestigious residency program in Joseph, Oregon.

Primarily a vessel maker, Magdalene Odundo was born in Africa, educated in England, and has work in museums, galleries, and private collections across the world. Odundo has had dozens of solo shows and participated in countless group exhibitions. She brings an internationally renowned, time-tempered aesthetic that reaches far beyond traditional pottery. Odundo has been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honour's List for Services to the Arts, as well as Patron & Trustee by the English National Society for Education of Art & Design. She continues to make and show work, teach, and participate in residencies and workshops. She works and lives in Surrey, England.

ELIGIBILITY:
The 2015 NCECA NSJE is open to full-time undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate students (as defined by their home institution) enrolled in the United States of America. Students enrolled at institutions on which the jurors currently serve as faculty are not eligible to apply. The applicant must be working towards a degree or be a post-baccalaureate in art at the time of submittal.

FEES:
Members $15 entry fee
Non-Members $30 entry fee

NCECA MEMBERSHIP:
NCECA Membership is not a requirement of submission but members will receive a 50% discount on exhibition submission fee as well as a range of other benefits. NCECA membership runs 12 months from the date of initiation or renewal. NCECA Membership fees are not included in any event registration. Membership is a stand-alone annual fee. ENTRY PROCEDURES:

Submission begins April 16 and ends September 24, 2014.

NUMBER OF WORKS:
No more than two pieces of artwork may be submitted. For each artwork, you may submit only one full view image and one detail image. Jurors will only consider up to two works and review up to four images by each entrant . Jurying will be conducted from images of actual works available for the exhibition. No substitutions allowed. Submissions that include more than two works or more than one detail image per work may be excluded from adjudication. Please do not submit the same pieces to multiple NCECA calls in the same year.

EXCLUSIONS: NCECA reserves the right to exclude from adjudication any submissions that include more than two works or more than one detail image per work. Please do not submit the same pieces to multiple NCECA calls in the same year. Additionally NCECA reserves the right to exclude from adjudication any submissions made with incorrect fees. It is the artist's responsibility to verify and update member status before submitting his/her work and paying the entry fee. NCECA will not process refunds to those who submit incorrect fees.

MEDIA & LIMITATIONS
All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only when clay is the dominant material. Video featuring clay or ceramics will be juried if a link is provided in the description field of the entry. All links must be anonymous, any reference to an applicant’s name or school will disqualify participant from jurying. The jurors will make final determinations. Work must fit through a standard door. Floor and pedestal works must be self-supporting. NCECA and exhibition venue staff reserve the right to exclude from exhibition works that arrive at the venue in unstable condition.

CATEGORIES AND AWARDS
Cash merit awards will be determined by the jurors from the actual works and will be announced during the Opening Reception and at the Second Members' Business Meeting. Recent NSJE Exhibition Awards have included NCECA, company and organizationally sponsored cash prizes and purchase awards. The final award list will be published at the time of the exhibition.

SHIPPING

Please note: In previous NSJE’s a significant percentage of work has arrived broken. Please ensure your work is packed properly. Students are responsible for shipping or delivery of their work to and from the Rhode Island School of Design and insuring it while in transit. NCECA will reimburse up to $50.00 per piece for RETURN shipping. Students must include a pre-paid RETURN label for return shipment. An ORIGINAL receipt for return shipping with the 2015 NSJE Reimbursement form (to be sent post conference) must be provided to NCECA by May 15, 2015. NCECA will not reimburse shipping for work that is sold; purchaser is responsible for pick up or shipping.

INSURANCE AND SALES
The Rhode Island School of Design will provide insurance coverage of work while on their premises for market value as confirmed by RISD or for the amount available. Artists will be responsible for insurance of work in transit. The Rhode Island School of Design will refer sales to NCECA; a 30% commission will be retained by NCECA.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Participating artists must agree to allow NCECA, the Rhode Island School of Design, and gallery visitors to photograph work while on display for educational and publicity purposes. Images of accepted works will be retained by NCECA for promotional purposes, posting on the NCECA website and sharing with media related publications. NCECA will print a color exhibition poster that will be distributed at the conference. NCECA may create a digital catalog and/or an online version of the exhibition using images of accepted work.
