2014 Ceramic World Cup Tournament

A serious exhibition. A lighthearted competition.

March 3rd- 30th 2014

HYART Gallery

133 W Johnson St

Madison, WI 53703

A serious exhibition.

The 2014 Ceramic World Cup Tournament is a national, juried exhibition. Thirty-two artists will be chosen to display three cups at HYART Gallery in Madison, WI. The exhibition will be promoted before and during the 47th annual NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) conference in Milwaukee, WI, which will take place from March 19-22, 2014.

A lighthearted competition.

A representative cup from each artist in the exhibition will be chosen, and these 32 cups will compete in a round-robin style tournament for the title of 2014 Ceramic World Cup Champion. The tournament will take place in the days leading up to and during the NCECA conference.

HYART Gallery will invite fans from the public to cheer for their favorite cup by voting in-store or online. This will increase the public exposure of the exhibition and the artists participating.

The tournament will culminate in an awards ceremony on Saturday, March 22. The champion will be awarded with a pewter trophy made by Hiroko Yamada, pewtersmith and owner of HYART Gallery. The runner up will be awarded a pewter medal, and third place will earn bragging rights.

Submit images of 3 cups. Each cup may have two images (allowing for detail, second view, or group images). Images must be 300 dpi, with the shortest side being no less than 1400 pixels.

By submitting your images you agree to allow HYART Gallery to use the images of selected artists’ work for promotion online, through social media, in print, or in local newspapers. Please provide appropriate photo credit.

The Exhibition: Shipping, Sales, and Insurance

Jurors will select 32 artists to participate in the exhibition. Selected artists will be responsible for shipping their cups to HYART Gallery. HYART Gallery will insure the pieces while they are in the gallery, but is not responsible for any damage that occurs during shipping. Work that is damaged during shipping, or which displays poor craftsmanship, will not be displayed. Nor will pieces which differ from submitted images be shown. All work must be received by February 10, 2014.

Cups in the exhibition may be for sale, if the artist so chooses. Artists participating in the exhibition may also send two additional cups which will not necessarily be on display but will be sold to customers who wish to take them home before the exhibition closes. Artists set their own sale prices, and will receive 60% of any sales.

HYART Gallery will be responsible for return shipping, and will mail back the remaining cups on May 10, 2014. Artists who have sold cups will receive a check for 60% of the sale price along with any unsold cups. Artists who have sold all their cups will just be mailed their check. Artists with sales exceeding $600 must submit a W-9 form (sent if applicable) before payment can be made.

The Competition: Public Voting

To determine the 2014 Ceramic World Cup Champion, HYART Gallery will invite the public to vote for their favorite cup in the exhibition in-store or online. This will increase the public exposure of the exhibition and the artists participating.

HYART will choose one image from the application of each artist selected by the jurors for the exhibition. These images will represent the cups for online voting.
