  Drink This! Workhouse International Ceramic Cup Show

Drink This! 2014 will showcase ceramic drinking vessels by contemporary artists around the globe. The focus of the exhibit is on the variety of ways artists explore the cup, in functional, sculptural, traditional and non-traditional forms.

Juror-Sam Chung

Sam Chung is a ceramic artist and assistant professor at Arizona State University in Tempe, known for his angular approaches to ceramic vessels and striking glazes. He received his BFA from Arizona State University in 1997 and BA from St Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1988.

Sam has won numerous awards throughout the United States, presents many workshops and lectures across the United States and abroad, and has held residencies in Jingdzhen (China), Guldagergaard Denmark, Watershed and Anderson Ranch Arts Center. His work is exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, and can be found in many public and private collections, as well as included in numerous publications. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.

Entry Guidelines

Work shall have been completed within the last two years. Mixed media works will be permitted if clay is the primary component. Selections will be conducted from digital images of works. Artists may submit up to three entries with two images (including one detail) of each, not to exceed six images.

Accepted art work must be available for the entire exhibition.

Entry fee

$25 for one entry, $30 for up to three entries.

Sales and Insurance

The exhibit will be open to the public seven days a week to encourage sales. The Workhouse will retain a sales commission of 30%. Art works must be available for sale.

The artist is responsible for insuring art work while in transit to and from the Workhouse. The Workhouse Arts Center will be responsible for insurance during the exhibit. US residents must provide (will be sent if applicable) a W-9 form for any work(s) for sale exceeding $600.

Shipping and Delivery

Works must be packed in reusable boxes. Provisions for return of shipped work shall be included in the form of a pre-paid return shipping label, postage, or check, made payable to LAF.

Shipped works shall arrive by January 3. Hand-delivered works shall arrive on January 4 or 5, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Signed contracts must be included with the shipment or delivery. Regretfully, work that is damaged during shipping, or which displays poor craftsmanship, will not be displayed. Nor will pieces which differ from submitted images be shown.

Photography Release

Accepted artists agree to allow the Lorton Arts Foundation /Workhouse Arts Center to photograph work while on display. Artists should understand that works in the exhibition may be photographed, telecast and reproduced for publicity purposes, and retained for future use. This may include publications, internet, and television.

Reception

An opening reception will occur on January 11, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Workhouse Arts Center-W-8-Ceramics Building.
