Prospectus
The Guild, presenter of The Artful Home® catalogs, artfulhome.com website, and Guild Sourcebooks, is seeking original two-dimensional works of art in any style with the power to communicate and transport. Ten finalists will be selected by a jury led by David A. Ross, chairman of the Artist Pension Trust Curatorial Committee, and former director of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. A Grand Prize winner and two Honorable Mention winners will be chosen from among the ten finalists by a public online vote in May 2007 at artfulhome.com. The Grand Prize-winning artwork will be turned into a signed and numbered giclée print edition which shall be sold through The Artful Home catalogs and website.Applications will be accepted from February 15 to March 31, 2007.
One application per person. The application should consist of:
• Up to 3 separate artworks related to the theme "Art of Inspiration;"
• An artist statement, not to exceed 1,000 characters in length, describing what inspires you and how your entry reflects that inspiration (type in Artist Statement box on application);
• An artist's resume should also be sent separately to resumes@guild.com.
Jury Fee: $30 payable by credit card to Juried Art Services.
Eligibility: The competition is open to all artists, 18 years of age or older, who are legal residents of the United States or Canada, except employees and consultants of The Guild, members of their immediate families, or members of their households; anyone living in a state or province where the competition is prohibited, taxed, or otherwise restricted under rules or regulations; and agents or representatives acting on behalf of The Guild as specified in the Official Rules.
Categories: Open to any two-dimensional discipline including, but not limited to, drawing, fiber, painting, one-of-a-kind traditional prints, photography, and collage.
Restrictions: All images submitted by an entrant must be the work of the entrant and must not have been previously published elsewhere. Only one-of-a-kind artwork is eligible for this competition.
Online Review of Application: You will be able to review your application, as it will appear to the jury, immediately upon completion of your application.
Notification: Ten finalists will be notified on or about April 13, 2007. The finalists’ entries will be placed online at artfulhome.com from May 1 through May 15, 2007, for final voting by the public. The Grand Prize winner will be notified by May 25, 2007.
Awards: The Grand Prize winner will receive an artwork publishing contract with The Guild for the sale of giclée prints in a signed and numbered edition to be made from the winning entry. (Maximum edition size of 250—ultimate edition size to be determined by The Guild.)
The giclée made from the winning entry will be featured in The Artful Home Fall 2007 catalog as well as on the artfulhome.com website.
The Grand Prize winner will also receive the following awards:
• A $1,500 cash award
• An artist page in The Guild® Sourcebook of Residential Art.
Two Honorable Mention winners will each receive a $500 cash award.
Conditions: If your entry is selected as a finalist, The Guild will require a signed Letter of Intent indicating your willingness to sign The Guild Artwork Publishing Agreement if your entry is selected as the Grand Prize winner. Click here to view The Guild Artwork Publishing Agreement.
