MFA Biennial: Juried Bodies of Work 

2012 // CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Baum Gallery of Fine Art, a small museum on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas, is pleased to announce a call for submissions to the MFA Biennial: Juried Bodies of Work, a national visual art competition in all media.

The Baum MFA Biennial invites submissions by artists who have recently completed their MFA exhibit and degree in 2011 or 2012.  This competitive awards a post-graduate exhibit of work from the selected artists’ MFA thesis exhibition. The selected bodies of work will be featured in the Baum MFA Biennial exhibition scheduled for September 6-November 1, 2012.  Images and artists will also be featured in a full-color brochure and in web and print media. The juror for this year is Victoria Reis, Executive and Artistic Director of Transformer, D.C.  https://transformerdc.org/

JUROR // Victoria Reis, Executive and Artistic Director, Transformer D.C.

Victoria Reis is a curator and arts organizer based in Washington, D.C. Ms. Reis is co-Founder and Executive & Artistic Director of Transformer, a Washington, D.C. based non-profit visual arts organization which connects and promotes emerging visual artists within exhibition and educational programming contexts via partnerships with artists, curators and arts spaces, as well as commercial galleries, museums and other cultural institutions.

Ms. Reis served as a curatorial consultant to the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities. She is the former Director of Programs for the National Association of Artists’ Organizations (NAAO) and for the International Sculpture Center. She was selected to curate the 9th biennial Options exhibition for the Washington Project for the Arts/Corcoran (WPA/C) in 1999. She also organized and curated the WPA/C’s 10th biennial Options in 2002, receiving exceptional critical reviews by The Washington Post

ELIGIBILITY

The Baum MFA Biennial is open to all recent graduates of an accredited Master of Fine Arts program in the visual arts, graduating in either 2011 or 2012. Entrants must provide 7 images representative of a body of work to be exhibited in our galleries. Please include a short statement about the work as well as a current resume or curriculum vitae.

MEDIA

We are accepting entries in all media including ceramics, fibers, illustration, installation, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video.

CATALOG

The Baum Gallery will publish an illustrated catalog of work by selected artists. Each artist will receive complimentary copies.

ENTRY FEE

$30 non-refundable entry fee per artist. Payment is via credit card or bank draft through Paypal.

DELIVERY AND RETURN OF ARTWORK

Selected artists are responsible for packing (in reusable container) and incoming shipping & transit insurance. The Baum will be responsible for return shipping and transit insurance using UPS. Work may also be hand delivered. All work must arrive ready to install and artists must provide instructions/diagrams and related hardware.  If the work is not gallery-ready or does not exhibit good craftsmanship it may be omitted from the exhibition. Accepted work that differs significantly from the entry images or suffers from poor presentation will be disqualified. Works will be insured while on gallery premises. All work will be returned by November 15, 2012.

SALE OF WORK

All work, unless indicated as not for sale (NFS) will be for sale in the exhibit. The Baum Gallery takes no percentage from sales and interested buyers will be directed to arrange purchase with the artist.

THE BAUM GALLERY

The Baum Gallery is an educational art museum for UCA students, faculty and staff, and the central Arkansas community. The Director and Faculty Exhibitions Committee select national and international touring exhibitions, sponsor juried student shows, and cooperate across disciplines to curate original exhibits distinctly suited to an academic environment. The gallery develops exhibitions and events that invite interaction and encourage dialogue about visual art: the creators, studio process, history, criticism, curation, and cultural contexts.
