2011 Red Hot Summer Party & Auction

Museum of Glass will be celebrating the 10th Annual Red Hot Party & Auction on Saturday, July 30, 2011 for what promises to be a glorious and memorable evening of gourmet food, incredible art, and winning bids! Proceeds from Red Hot, the Museum's largest annual fundraiser, benefit education, Hot Shop programs, exhibitions, and the care, study and exhibition of our permanent collection.  Thanks in large part to the contributions from the first Red Hot Juried Auction in 2010, Museum of Glass was able to raise over $650,000, and hosted an evening that was highlighted by extraordinary art and artists, including our 2010 award winners: Preston Singletary, Ethan Stern, and John Kiley.  We are thrilled to continue the awards tradition into 2011, and will be offering the following three prizes.

Red Hot 2011 Artist Grand Prize

$10,000 prize plus a one-week Visiting Artist residency in the Hot Shop

                  Selected by the jury

People's Choice Artist Award

$5,000 prize plus a one-week Visiting Artist residency in the Hot Shop

                  Selected by the public

Artists' Choice Award

$5,000 prize plus a one-week Visiting Artist residency in the Hot Shop

                  Selected by YOU!

Voting instructions will be posted at www.museumofglass.org closer to the event.

We welcome artworks with a variety of styles, functions, and price points, including intricately detailed jewelry, flamboyant blown vessels, elegant, functional glassware, socially conscious sculpture, and more.  We want to see it all!  Submissions will be evaluated within the following market values:

$300-$1,000

$1,001 - $5,000

$5,001 and above

Works of art will be selected from each category for the silent auctions and up to 39 pieces receiving star treatment in the exhilarating Red Hot Live Auction!  Items from any category are eligible to win the Red Hot 2011 Artist Grand Prize and either the Artists' Choice or People's Choice Awards.  Enter today and help us make the Red Hot 2011 Juried Auction another smashing success!

- Marketability and audience appeal

- Expression of a narrative or message with the work

- General aesthetic sensibility

Auction Format

While Museum of Glass will conduct a traditional jurying process with the Red Hot Party & Auction, the event also serves as our largest annual fundraiser.  When entering your artwork to be juried, you are also entering your artwork to be sold to event guests in the live or silent auctions, in which these procedures are followed:

- Silent Auction

Guests bid for auction items in writing.  Bids start at 30% of the declared value, unless otherwise specified by the artist.

- Live Auction

Guests bid on auction items by holding up bid cards.  Again, bidding begins at 30% of value, unless otherwise specified by the artist.

Due to the generosity of your donation, 100% of the auction proceeds go directly into Museum of Glass operations.

About Museum of Glass

By creating original and traveling exhibitions, engaging glassblowing demonstrations and thought-provoking public programs, Museum of Glass welcomes, inspires and educates a diverse global audience of all ages.  Since opening in 2002, Museum of Glass has welcomed more than 1.4 million visitors from all 50 states and 75 countries.  In addition, the Hot Shop experience streams live from the Museum's website, where over 3000 virtual visitors view it each month from 93 different countries.

At the base of the cone is the Museum's best feature: the Hot Shop, in which many of the last decade's innovations in modern glass have unfolded.  Through the Visiting Artist Program, artists from throughout the United States and 20 other countries have participated and have been given an opportunity to experiment and create work on an unprecedented scale.  During the residencies, artists work with the Museum's Hot Shop team comprised of four full-time gaffers, two educational interpreters, two audio/video specialists, and one cold-worker.  The artists work on the Hot Shop floor in direct view of an enthralled audience.

Please note:

  1. Though we enjoy seeing the incredible works you submit, please limit your entry to one artwork only.  Up to 5 detail images are welcome, but all images should be of the same artwork.
  1. The image(s) submitted must faithfully represent the artwork intended for the auction, as many of the images are used in the auction catalogue.
