Prospectus

"Celebrating sensuality, sexuality and eroticism in artistic expression" The Rochester (NY) Erotic Arts Festival is a tasteful yet enthralling event featuring an international erotic art exhibition, intriguing workshops, poetry contests, spicy entertainment, and living erotic art. The festival will be held at the Harro East, an elegant Georgian-style ballroom with large palladian windows, 30-foot ceilings, and brass chandeliers, providing exquisite lighting and a truly classic atmosphere. Produced by non-profit Rochester Erotic Arts, Inc.

Artist Reception & Opening Gala: Friday, March 26, from 7-10 pm, featuring live music, entertainment, and fire dancing.


SHOW:

This show is an international juried exhibition. We are in search of high quality original works that are creative, erotic and thought-provoking. Accepted media include drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, collage, digital art, photography, film, and sculpture, for exhibition and possible sale. Prints (other than photographs) must be identified as such, and must be in limited editions on archival paper, numbered and signed by the artist. All two dimensional artwork must be matted, framed, signed by the artist, and labeled with artist name and title. Work may not have been previously exhibited at REAF. 15% of the sale price of art will go to Rochester Erotic Arts, Inc. to support future festivals (works do not have to be offered for sale).

Artists must be 18 and over. Photographs of any identifiable person must be accompanied by a model release. In addition, if nude or engaged in sexual activity, a legible copy of valid ID must be provided proving model's age to be 18+. Entries that depict minors will NOT be accepted.

Poster Competition: Poster entries for the festival will be accepted until January 1, 2010 through our web site at www.rochestereroticartfest.org. Artists are encouraged to submit a G or PG-rated design appropriate for replication on posters, t-shirts and other promotional material. Award $200. No submission fee.


AWARDS:

$1,000 in awards will be presented. Grand Prize $400, Second Place $300, Popular Choice $200, Third Place $100. Each artist may only win one award. Awards are NOT tied to categories.


APPLICATION DEADLINES AND FEES:

Early Deadline: February 3, 2010, Midnight EST. The non-refundable application fee is $35 for up to 5 pieces of work, payable online by credit card. There is no limit on submissions per artist.




SUBMISSION:

All submissions will take place online through www.juriedartservices.com. Artists may submit up to 5 pieces on each application, and may submit as many applications as they like. For each submission, upload one photo per piece in standard JPG format at 300 dpi, from 1400 to 2,000 pixels at the longest dimension (3 photos per piece for sculpture).

Specific details on how to prepare your image properly can be found at www.juriedartservices.com (click on the “Help” tab). Please review the instructions and suggestions on the site before you begin your application. It is helpful to have all information prepared and at hand before beginning your application.

You will need an Artist Statement up to 1000 characters (for the jury; and for publication on the REAF web site, accepted artists only) and a  list of up to 10 Previous Shows, Honors, and Awards (for publication on the REAF web site, accepted artists only). For each piece you will enter the Title, Media Category, size of  frame, weight, year created, original or print, and sale price (if offered for sale). You may also include an additional statement regarding the individual piece.


NOTIFICATION:

Notification of the jury's decision will be posted online at JAS and emailed by February 15, 2010. You may look up the status of your application(s) online by clicking on the Manage Application function of the Juried Art Services web site. All correspondence between REAF and accepted artists will be electronic.


SHIPPING AND DELIVERY:

Artists will be responsible for shipping their pieces to the Rochester Erotic Arts Festival via UPS or FedEx in a reusable carton, or hand delivering their work. Works must be labeled with title and artist’s name. Return shipping must be prepaid or on account; the return label must be included in the carton. A “Return Shipping Instructions” form will be supplied by REAF to all accepted artists and must be included in the package with the work. Late or damaged work may not be exhibited. Hand-deliveries will be accepted on Thursday, March 25 from 12 to 8 pm. All work must arrive between Monday and Thursday, March 22-25, 2010. Our full shipping policy and checklist is available by request and will be sent to accepted artists.

The Festival will not be responsible for loss or damage to any pieces submitted; however, utmost care will be given to pieces received, including round-the-clock security. Shipped work that differs from work accepted will not be displayed unless previously approved.


RETURN:

Exhibited hand-delivered work must be picked up on Sunday, March 28 from 7-8 pm or Monday, March 29, from 12 noon - 8 pm. Shipped works will be packaged and ready for shipment by March 30. Work may not be picked up before the closing of the exhibition.


PHOTOGRAPHY AT EVENT:

Cameras will be allowed at the event, but photos may not be used commercially or for festival publicity without the artist's permission.
