Central City Opera House Association presents the
2018 Central City Plein Air Festival
September 28 - September 30, 2018

Eligibility
Open to all artists 18 and older.
Entry Form and Fee
The 2018 Central City Plein Air Festival application will be available online from March 13, 2018 through June 1, 2018. Submission fee is $35 per person and includes 3-5 images and an artist statement. Requested application information includes the submission of three to five artwork images that represent your experience as a plein air aritst. An artist statement which includes a bio, listing of past exhibits, festivals and awards is also required. Please note: all application fees are non-refundable.
Image & Resume Format
Each artist must submit 3-5 images of the Plein Air artwork in JPEG format, color space preferred format with a resolution of 300 DPI (max 4000 pixels on the longest side) as part of the online application process. If you have a Macintosh, please use only letters and numbers in your filename and only 1 (one) period (.). Help entering images, questions or concerns can be directed to support@jurying.net.
Submitted artwork images must be representative of the type, style, and medium of artwork the artist plans to create during the festival itself. Additionally, applicants may only submit images of artwork that has been created entirely of their own skill with no assistance of instruction (ex: images from artwork completed in class or workshop are not acceptable)
Selection Process
Participation in the 2018 Central City Plein Air Festival in Central City, Colorado is through a juried process consisting of two jurors: Desmond O’Hagan and Lorenzo Chavez. The panel will review all submitted applications and select up to 30 artists to participate in the 2018 event. Notification of selected artists will be sent to each applicant via e-mail no later than June 15, 2018. Artists agreement forms will be emailed to those who have been accepted following the announcement.
Festival Details
On Friday, September 28th, 2018 painters are asked to paint within a 2 mile radius of the Central City Opera House. On Saturday, September 29th, 2018 painters are asked paint in three pre-designated landscape locations around Central City. On Sunday, September 30th, 2018, painters are asked to paint in three pre-designated street locations within Central City town center.
Exhibition Details
All artwork must be completed in the Central City area between September 28th and September 30th, 2018. Canvases will be stamped with an approved insignia as they arrive. Only artwork with this stamp will be permitted in the Exhibition & Sale and this authentication must be visible on the back of the artwork substrate. Artists are asked to paint a minimum of six (6) original paintings of varying sizes. Wire hangers or a suitable hanging device must be attached and ready to hang for exhibition. Artists are not required to frame exhibition pieces, but may to choose to do so if so desired. The Exhibition will be judged by Desmond O’Hagan.
Sales
This event is a fundraiser for Central City Opera House Association, (Central City Opera) a 501(c)(3) non profit. An exhibition and sale of the works created during the 2018 Central City Plein Air Festival will be hosted by Central City Opera in the Teller House in downtown Central City, Colorado. A Private Preview Party will be held for Central City Opera donors and art collectors from 4 PM to 5 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018. The Awards Reception and Exhibition & Sale will open to the public from 5PM to 8PM. Artists are expected to be on-site during the both the private reception and exhibition.
Central City Opera will retain 40% of all sales revenue generated throughout the sale. Central City Opera staff and volunteers will be responsible for taking and processing all sales and will remit artists’ earnings within thirty (30) days after the exhibition closes. Artists are permitted to take commissioned works, but these requests are subject to the same commissioned rate. Payment for Central City Opera’s 40% portion of any commissioned pieces must also be made at the time the commission is requested by the buyer.

Lodging/Transportation
Discounted lodging in local Central City’s hotels will be available to each participating artist for two (2) nights: Friday, September 28 and Saturday September 29, 2018. Details about specific accommodations and rates will be provided upon acceptance. Artists are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from, Central City, Colorado.

About the Judges
We are thrilled to have Desmond O’Hagan (Panel Selection Judge and Exhibition Judge) and Lorenzo Chavez (Panel Selection Judge) as our jurors for this event.
Desmond O’Hagan is listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America. In 2005, he was inducted into the International Association of Pastel Societies’ (IAPS) “Masters Circle.” O’Hagan has won several awards in national and international exhibits including IAPS convention exhibit’s Prix’d Pastel Award, “Southwest Art” magazine’s Award of Excellence at the “Altitude & Attitude” Exhibition in Denver, CO. He has also won the George Innes, Jr. Memorial Award from the Salmagundi Club in New York City, and awards from the Pastel Society of America’s annual exhibits.
Lorenzo Chavez has been painting professionally since 1985. His work is featured in six galleries in the United States and is included in private and corporate collections nationally and internationally. He teaches workshops regularly at the Scottsdale Artists School, Fredericksburg Art School, Fechin Art School, Valdes Art Workshops. In 1996, he was named on of the ten most collectible young painters in the county by Art Talk magazine. He has been the recipient of awards and honors from such notable groups at the Pastel Society of America, the C.M. Russell Auction, and Artists of the West Pioneer Museum, Society of American Impressionists. Chavez is a member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group, the California Art Club, as well as honorary memberships in pastel societies throughout the country.

Licensing For Promotion
Artist acceptance to the event grants Central City Opera a nonexclusive license to use images of participating artists in Central City Opera promotional purposes including, but not limited to, the invitation, website, posters, advertisements, and subsequent year’s prospectus. Participating artists must sign a photo/video release authorizing Central City Opera to reproduce and use said photographs/recordings for use in Central City Opera advertising, publicity, commercial or other business purposes.
