Artist Statement

“I am a contemporary representational painter, working primarily outdoors. I paint what catches my interest in the moment. This could be almost anything; an orchestration of shapes, color contrast, light and shadow patterns, a mood or atmosphere, a subject I have never tried, or a subject I enjoy, etc. I am drawn to paint places and things that say something about the day and time I live in now. Although my work is not necessarily subject driven, I find myself painting the overlooked and simultaneously familiar aspects of everyday life - scenes we pass by but rarely take the time to fully consider. In the chaos of daily life, I believe we all take the simple and familiar for granted. Sometimes it is these quiet unadorned places that make the most worthy subjects.”

SELECTION PROCESS

Each entry is reviewed and scored by an independent jury panel.  The Jurying panel will consist of a minimum of 5 NOAPS Master Artists or Signature Members.  The panel selects paintings for the exhibit based on the quality and individual mastery of the medium.   IMPORTANT: Jurors in the panel make selections based on the image entered (make sure the image depicts a true representation of the painting). Jurors score the image only and do not see any information about the artist.

NOAPS “BEST OF AMERICA” AWARDS

The total awards will approximate $25,000 in cash and sponsor merchandise. Cash Awards include: Best of Show $5,000, Second Place $1,500, and Third Place $1,000.  The Best of Show includes the honor of having the artist’s winning painting become the image on the front cover of the 2018 Best of America catalog. Acceptance into three Best of America Exhibits within five years will qualify an artist for NOAPS Signature Status. Artists may also qualify for NOAPS Master Artist Status. See qualification requirements in our website.

SELECTION NOTIFICATION

Artists selected for the 2017 Best of America Exhibit will be notified by email from Juried Art Services. An up to date email address is essential for notification.
