Prospectus

The 2008 OPA Western Regional Exhibition will be hosted by Devin Galleries in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  Located in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Devin Galleries is hosting an opening reception, in its almost 7,000 square foot gallery, for artists, collectors, the public and the press on Friday evening, September 12, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  The largest city in northern Idaho, Coeur d’Alene is said to have the world’s longest floating boardwalk as well as many historical and recreational attractions. 
Our goal is to assemble the finest display of representational oil paintings.  The focus in the jurying process will be to select paintings that show the highest quality in draftsmanship, color, and composition, emphasizing a diversity in representational style and subject matter.
The total awards will be approximately $10,000, including a $3,000 Best In Show.
The awarding juror for this year’s 2008 National Juried Exhibition will be an internationally renowned Signature or Master Signature member.
Eligible states and provinces include: Alaska, Alberta, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Manitoba, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, North Dakota, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Oklahoma, Oregon, Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Yukon Territories, and all of Mexico.  Artists must be either 2008 OPA members or have submitted an application for membership or renewal for 2008 to be eligible to submit an entry in this exhibition.

BECAUSE EACH WORK IS JURIED SEPARATELY, EACH WORK MUST HAVE ITS OWN APPLICATION. 1 image per entry. Maximum entries two (2). One entry is $20.00 the second entry is an additional $10.00. Please complete payment for this application before you create an additional application. Once you have paid, click APPLY TO SHOW under SYSTEM CONTROLS on the left of the screen to create your next entry.

Please note; FedEx does not deliver to a post office box.  Use the U. S. Postal Service to deliver your entry forms.  Use a No. 10 size envelope.  Do Not request a signature by receiver.

  • Representational oil paintings of original concept and design only.
  • Paintings entered should be of current work and should not have been accepted for a previous OPA National Exhibition.
  • Canvas size: longest dimension not to exceed 40”.  Smallest dimension not to exceed 30”. 
  • Painting must be framed and wired for hanging.
  • Maximum entries two (2).  However, only one (1) painting will be accepted.
  • The artist retains copyright to their image(s).  However, accepted images do become part of OPA archives and may be used for future OPA event promotion.
  • Print large or type on entry form and slide(s).
  • No handwriting please.  Use first and last name only.

Liabilities and Responsibilities
Oil Painters of America and Devin Galleries will not be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause.  By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist will be deemed to have concurred with this agreement.

ARTISTS PAY FOR SHIPPING AND INSURANCE BOTH WAYS.  WE  SUGGEST THAT YOU PROVIDE INSURANCE TO COVER THE FULL VALUE OF THE ARTWORK WHILE IN TRANSIT.  SHIPMENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES MUST BE SHIPPED “FREE DOMICILE” OR THEY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

William Schneider, Signature Member and OPA Board Member, will serve as chairman of a Jurying Committee consisting of five Master Signature or Signature members of OPA.  The results of the jurying will be final.  No refund of entry fee on unaccepted slides.  Participants will be notified of the jurors' selections.

Entry Information
On-line Submissions—Deadline: Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Electronic applications will be accepted beginning Friday, April 4 through Tuesday, June 17, 2008.  Images should be a width of 1400 pixels for landscape images (wide images) and a height of 1400 pixels for portrait images (tall images).  Specific details on how to prepare your image properly can be found at https://www.juriedartservices.com.  Click on the “Help” tab.

Mailed Entries - Deadline: Tuesday, June 3, 2008
Hardcopy, mailed applications with slide submittals only will be accepted if received in the OPA post office box on or before June 3, 2008.  An additional $15.00 charge over and above the entry fee will apply.  Mail slides of your unframed oil paintings, entry fee and entry and notification forms, together with a stamped, self-addressed business size envelope (4-1/8” X 9-½”). Print clearly on slides: your name, title of painting, size, and price. Place a red dot in upper right, front corner of slides.  Declined slides will be returned. Slides will be scanned and included in the on-line jurying process.  Do not paperclip slides to your entry.  Send entries in a business size No. 10 envelope.  DO NOT request a signature by receiver.

Jurying Fees
The jurying fee for electronic entries is as follows:  one painting is $20.00 or $30.00 for two paintings.   Only one painting will be accepted.  Electronic payment may be made by credit card or through Paypal.  No e-checks will be accepted.  Jurying fees for on-line submission may also be paid by check mailed to OPA if received by Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Please note, you must be a paid member through December 31, 2008 at a cost of $60.00.  If you are currently not a member or have not paid your 2008 membership dues, OPA will accept your entry provided that 1.) an electronic membership fee is paid by Monday, June 2.) a mailed membership application with your annual dues are received no later than Friday, May 30, 2008.  More membership information can be found on the OPA website,https://www.oilpaintersofamerica.com, under “Join”.

Sales Commission
Sales commission of 40% is required by the gallery for all paintings sold.  Please take this into consideration when setting your price.  All work that is submitted must be for sale.  NO NFS.

DELIVERY AND RETURN OF ACCEPTED WORK
Delivery for Local Artists and Out of Town Artists:  Local and Out of Town artists’ paintings must arrive at the gallery NO LATER THAN Monday, August 18, 2008.  Out of Town Artists, please ship to Devin Galleries, 507 Sherman Avenue, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 83814.  Local Artists, please deliver uncrated paintings during regular gallery hours (See gallery hours). 

Handling Fee:  Out of Town Artists must include a $25 check payable to Devin Galleries to cover the expense of uncrating, storage of crates, recrating and contacting your shipper for return.  In a separate envelope, either include a check made payable to Devin Galleries, to cover the entire cost of return shipping, or include the appropriate shipping label with your personal Fed Ex or UPS Account Information.  Shipments from OUTSIDE the United States must be shipped “FREE DOMICILE” or they will not be accepted.
