Show Description:

The Academy Art Museum Craft Show is an indoor, juried craft show featuring approximately 65 artists from across the United States. This year will be the Twentieth Anniversary of the Show

Founded in 1958 by a group of Maryland’s Eastern Shore residents, The Academy Art Museum has become the cultural hub of the Delmarva Peninsula for art, music, and educational programming. The Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums, a distinction bestowed on fewer than 5% of U.S. museums for their commitment to excellence, accountability, and high professional standards.  The Museum is a certified 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation.  The Annual Craft Show is the second largest fund-raising event in support of the mission of the Museum.  Funds raised from the show support the ongoing programming of the Museum as well as the financing of short-term exhibitions as well as acquisitions to the Museum’s permanent collection.

At the last show, approximately 30 of the 65 exhibitors were new.  The Show’s theme “Blown Away” focused on the art of glassmaking.  Approximately 3,000 people attended over the two-day exhibition plus the opening night Preview Party.  The Show spotlighted the works of three “featured” artists in the glass medium.  On display in the Atrium of the Museum were signature pieces of all the glass artists in the show plus the work of Emilio Santini, the Honorary Chair and Visionary Award Winner.

New for 2017:

The medium celebrated and highlighted at the 2017 show is ceramics. The show “Fired Up” will feature an exhibition of the works of renowned ceramics artist Bennett Bean. He is also the 2017 Honorary Chair and Visionary Award Winner.  A weekend-long live demonstration of Raku fired pottery  will be presented in the Museum Courtyard by regional artist Brett Thomas with his mobile Raku unit. In addition, ceramic artists Robert Hessler, 2015 Best of Show winner, and the Academy Art Museums own ceramics instructor, Paul Aspell, will be featured. Several of the juried exhibitors will also focus on ceramic artworksThis year a new category will be introduced, Emerging Artist.  These are passionate and skillful artists who are now entering their field as professionals.

Advertising and Market Reach:

The Academy Art Museum Craft Show draws patrons from not only the Delmarva Peninsula but also from the Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington DC and Philadelphia markets.  These markets are some of the wealthiest demographic areas in the United States based upon the 2010 US Government Census data.  Advertising in these market areas is done via all mediums – television, radio, newspaper, magazine and social media. Each juried artist will be featured (at least once) on the Show’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.  Artists juried in are encouraged to provide a short video of their artistry for use on the social media sites.
