THE EXHIBITION
The 2017 DUMA Biennial will be held May 27 – August 20, 2017 and is open to all media created within the past two years. The exhibition is open to all artists, 18 years of age or older, residing within a 200 mile radius of Dubuque, Iowa. Purchase awards and exhibition opportunities are some of the additional benefits possible for artists whose work is selected for this very popular and competitive exhibition that highlights the quality and variety of artwork currently being produced in this area.
JUROR
Amanda C. Burdan, Ph.D., Associate Curator of the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Ms. Burdan will present awards at the exhibition reception Friday, June 2, 2017 and lead a gallery talk on Saturday, June 3, 2017.
AWARDS
Best in show: $1000. Second place: $500. Third place: $250. The juror also has the option of awarding Honorable Mention recognitions.
ENTRY FEE and DEADLINE
The non-refundable entry fee is $40 for up to 3 works per entry. Artists may submit multiple entries. Entry fee is payable online by credit card. If you prefer to pay by check, please make check payable to DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART and mail to DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART, C/O BIENNIAL, 701 LOCUST ST, DUBUQUE, IA 52001. Be sure to include your application identification number so that we may credit your account appropriately. Payments must be received on or before 11:59 PM, Sunday, March 5, 2017.
SPECIFICATIONS
All accepted works must have been completed within the past TWO years and must be installation-ready with ALL hanging hardware attached, as applicable. Works cannot be larger than 80 inches in any one direction. Wall mounted works are limited to 100 lbs.
DELIVERY and RETURN OF ACCEPTED WORKS
All accepted artwork must remain in the exhibition for its duration. Accepted works must be delivered to the Museum between the hours of 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM May 18-19, 2017. Works must be picked up August 21-22, 2017 between the same hours listed.
Shipped works should be timed to arrive during this schedule as well. Artists are responsible for paying all shipping and insurance charges to and from the Museum; include pre-paid return shipping label with artwork. The Museum is not responsible for artworks in transit. Containers should be sturdy and reusable with appropriate return shipping instructions. Works will be returned in the same shipping materials. Shipped entries will be returned as soon as possible after the exhibition’s conclusion. INSURANCE, PUBLICITY, SALES
The Museum will exercise the same level of care to accepted works as it does its collections. While on premise, the Museum will insure accepted works for the value given by the artist. The Museum reserves the right to photograph and/or reproduce digital images of accepted works for any related or educational purpose. The Museum is not a sales venue. Parties interested in purchasing accepted works will be directed to the artist involved.
AGREEMENT
Submission to this competitive exhibition constitutes agreement on the part of the artist to all the conditions set forth in this prospectus.
