NATIONAL COUNCIL ON EDUCATION FOR THE CERAMIC ARTS


2009 REGIONAL STUDENT JURIED EXHIBITION
CALL FOR ENTRIES

The 43rd Annual NCECA Conference, “Ceramic Interface: From Dawn to Digital,” will be held in Phoenix, Arizona at the Phoenix Convention Center, April 8 - 11, 2009.  In conjunction with the conference, the Tempe Center for the Arts will host the NCECA 2009 Regional Student Juried Exhibition, January 24 – April 11, 2009.

Jurors

Geoffrey Wheeler – Studio potter and Assistant Professor, Ceramics, Department of Art and Design, University of Wisconsin – Stout.

Michaelene Walsh – Associate Professor of Art at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Eligible States

The NCECA 2009 RSJE is open to all matriculating undergraduate and graduate students in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, California, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Categories and Awards

Works will be juried from images in two categories, undergraduate and graduate.
 
Cash merit awards will be determined by the jurors from the actual works and will be announced during the Opening Reception and at the Second Members' Business Meeting. Awards will include: the NCECA Undergraduate Student Award for Excellence, the NCECA Graduate Student Award of Excellence, KBH Merit Award, Soldner Clay Mixers by Muddy Elbow Manufacturing Award of Excellence, the Rodger Lang Award for Student Excellence, the Aardvark Clay Purchase Award, the Amaco Award for Excellence, the Elmer Craig Merit Award.

Media & Limitations

All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only when clay is the dominant material. The jurors will make final determinations.  Work must fit through a standard door. Floor works must be firmly stable. Wall-mounted pieces are limited to 20 lbs.  Works may be hung from the ceiling.

Delivery of accepted work: January 7 - 12, 2009
Exhibition dates: January 24 – April 11, 2009
Return of work:  April 11, 2009, 6:00 pm. (no earlier), April 12, 2009

Shipping

Students are responsible for shipping their work to the Tempe Center for the Arts and insuring it while in transit.  Works may be shipped or hand delivered to the gallery but must be picked up by the artist.

Insurance and Sales

Tempe Center for the Arts will insure all work while on exhibit and will not retain a commission on sales.

Entry Guidelines

Student instructions:
All entries must be submitted electronically through this website using digital images.

The applicant must be full-time undergraduate or graduate student working towards a degree in art at the time of application.
Jurying will be conducted from images of actual works available for the exhibition. No substitutions will be allowed.  Each student may submit up to two works, with up to two images per entry. There is no fee to enter works.
Following the Juried Art Services guidelines, all images should be accompanied with the following information.

    • Title
    • Type of clay and firing method
    • Size (inches) H x W x D
    • Weight (lbs.)
    • Date
Photography
Participating artists must agree to allow NCECA and gallery visitors to photograph work while on display for educational and publicity purposes. 
Images of accepted entries will be retained for the NCECA archives and may be reproduced and posted on the NCECA website. NCECA will print a color exhibition poster that will be distributed at the conference.
