26th Annual ‘BEST OF AMERICA’ Exhibition

About the Event:

Celebrating its 26th Annual “Best of America” in 2016, the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) invites oil and acrylic painters from all across North America to apply to our annual exhibit honoring the best in oil and acrylic painting. The ‘Best of America’ is a juried competition open to members of NOAPS. The annual membership is $50 and can be paid when entering this exhibit or through the Membership Link at www.NOAPS.org. NOAPS has been showcasing the talents of oil and acrylic painters since 1991.

The Grand Opening Reception will be September 3, 2016, at the Addison Art Gallery in Orleans, Massachusetts, on beautiful Cape Cod.

The Judge for the event, Cheng Lian, will provide a workshop during the three days prior to the event.

There will be approximately $25,000 in Cash and Merchandise Awards for this prestigious event.

Application Fees:
$10 per entry, up to 5 entries allowed.
$50 Current 2016 NOAPS Membership required.
(Membership is valid from April 1 to March 31 of each year.)

Eligibility:
All NOAPS members: 18 years of age or older residing in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Entry Process:
All entries will be submitted via Juried Art Services (JAS) www.juriedartservices.com. JAS is a free service and provides a comprehensive ‘Help’ menu. NOAPS is also available to help with procedural problems. Email executivenoaps.org@gmail.com for assistance. Digital files should be saved in universal .jpeg format for JAS entry and should be between 1400 pixels and 4000 pixels longest dimension at 300PPI (pixels per inch).

Art work must be Original, with mediums limited to oil and acrylic paints and completed in the last 3 years and not previously accepted in any other Best of America Exhibit. Maximum size excluding frame shall not exceed 1200 square inches (EX: 30 X 40” = 1200 square inches)

Membership:
The annual 2016 NOAPS membership of $50 is required. Exhibit entrants can pay the membership fee through the membership link at www.NOAPS.org or entering the exhibit. The annual membership includes many other benefits and it is valid from April 1st to March 31st of each year.

Fees:
The Annual NOAPS Membership fee of $50 provides members all associated benefits. Once you are an active member, all images will have a fee of $10 per image UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 5 IMAGES. Example: Membership fee of $50 with a maximum of five entries = $100. Payment may be made by Pay Pal or Credit Card

Cheng Lian

Biographical Sketch:
Cheng Lian was born in 1955 in Shanghai, China, and graduated from China Academy of Fine Art (known as Zhejiang Academy of Fine Art). In 1989 he moved to the United States. He and his family currently reside in Texas.

As an artist, Cheng has traveled to many places in China, Asia, United States, Europe and South America. He also teaches art classes and workshops, and has given demonstrations for many art leagues. His paintings are collected widely throughout the world, both publicly and privately.

Exhibitions include: Wild Horse Gallery, Steamboat Springs, CO; Cutter & Cutter Fine Art, St. Augustine, FL; Dunnegan Gallery of Art, Bolivar, MO; Trailside Galleries, Jackson Hole, WY; Insight Gallery, Frederiksberg, TX; Bosque Art Center, Clifton, TX; Thornwood Galleries, Houston, Dallas, TX; Billy Hork Galleries, Chicago IL; Lakeside Gallery, Lakeside MI

The artist has numerous awards and publications. He is a Master Signature Artist in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society.

Selection Process:
Each entry is reviewed and scored by an independent jury panel. The Jurying panel will consist of a minimum of 5 NOAPS Master Artists or Signature Members. The panel selects paintings for the exhibit based on the quality and individual mastery of the medium. IMPORTANT: Jurors in the panel make selections based on the image entered (make sure the image depicts a true representation of the painting). Jurors score the image only and do not see any information about the artist.

NOAPS “Best of America” Awards:
The total awards will approximate $25,000 in cash and merchandise. Cash Awards include: Best of Show $5,000, Second Place $1,500, and Third Place $1,000. The Best of Show includes the honor of having the artist’s winning painting become the image on the front cover of the 2017 Best of America catalog.

Selection Notification:
Artists selected for the 2016 Best of America Exhibit will be notified by email from Juried Art Services. An up-to-date email address is essential for notification.

Art Accepted for the Exhibit:
Upon receipt of the accepted paintings at the exhibit location, NOAPS and the Addison Art Gallery retain the right to refuse to display and/or allow award judging due to: technical inaccuracy, misrepresentation, inadequate framing, or damage from improper packaging. NOAPS strongly recommends Strong Boxes from Airfloat Systems (20% discount to NOAPS members) or similar shipping container. All art received and displayed will not be returned until after the exhibit has closed.

Sales:
All entries must be for sale. Paintings of all price ranges are accepted. Entrants price their work and should closely represent the established market value of the artist’s work. The price entered on the Juried Artist Services application form will be the price for the duration of the exhibit.

Liability:
Every reasonable care will be exercised with all artwork. NOAPS, Addison Art Gallery, and any other organization or individual connected with the exhibition will not be responsible for loss or damage of artwork while being exhibited or in transit.

Commission:
The artist will receive 50% of the selling price, with the remainder split at 40% to the hosting gallery and 10% to NOAPS as the sponsor of the show.

Shipping:
Instructions will be provided with acceptance letters. All shipping charges to and from the Addison Art Gallery are the responsibility of the artist. We recommend insuring your work before shipping.Include in the shipping container: Prepaid return shipping label plus a $30 Check made out to Addison Art Gallery for unpacking, displaying/repacking and arranging for return shipping. Hand deliveries must also include a $30 handling fee.

Shipping from OUTSIDE the US must be shipped free domicile or they will not be accepted.
